Tell us about yourself.

My name is Shey Clark, I’m 21,  And I’m from Cape Cod! I’m very close with my parents and my sister, they mean the world to me. I’m mixed, my dad is African American and my mom is Caucasian. I’m a big family person, family comes first, I would do anything for them. My hobbies are any and everything fun and creative. I love all forms of art. Photography is a major love of mine, sunsets over the water are my favorite scenes to capture. The ocean is my favorite place to be, it’s a part of me. Growing up on Cape, I’ve been lucky enough to always be within a short distance from the water (I’m secretly a mermaid!).

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to be happy, no matter where I end up. As long as I have my family and the people I care about, that’s all that matters to me.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

Being your own kind of beautiful is knowing who you are and being that person unapologetically, even if it’s not “the norm”. It’s expressing yourself how ever you feel necessary with the utmost confidence. It’s being you, inside and out. Showing everyone who you are on the inside, and loving who you are on the outside.

Tell us about your modeling experience.

My first ever photoshoot was in February of 2018. I sort of fell into it, a close family friend was helping a local barber shop put on a photoshoot with different models and photographers. When I found out about it, I sent him a message and he told me to come. It was incredible. Ever since that day, I knew that was what I wanted to do. At that shoot I met a photographer who I kept in contact with, and we had another shoot that summer. Through networking with different photographers and meeting new people, I’ve had a total of seven photoshoots in the last year and a half. It has been amazing so far, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

What is your dream brand to model for?

My dream brand to model for would have to be my own. I love fashion and I’d love to learn and grow enough to maybe have my own line of clothing one day. It would probably consist of mostly gowns and dresses of all kinds. Maybe even jewelry!

How would you describe your fashion style?

My fashion style is all over the charts. Some days I feel like wearing black and leather, red lipstick, and boots. Other days it could be floral maxi skirts and a flower in my hair. Or oversized knit sweaters and braids. It depends on my mood, the day, and how warm it is outside. I love summer so most of my wardrobe includes summer clothes

How important is self-awareness and confidence to you in your everyday life?

Confidence is key. Even if it’s one of those days where you don’t have the energy, so you just throw some sweatpants on. You have to own whatever your current look is. Rock those sweatpants. Take a selfie in that messy mop of a bun. Do what you want and wear what you want, but do it with confidence. And for me, being self aware is important. You need to know what your intentions are with everything you do. And you need to think about how your next choice might ripple. Always be kind, it takes no significant time or energy to smile at the person walking by, or to hold the door for the next person. Be as positive as you can, it makes a difference.

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

I think that my beauty is a reflection of the things I love in life. I'm caring and loving towards animals and nature, and I treat the people I care about like they're the most important people in the world. I try to treat everyone I meet or come across with respect. I believe that having a positive, happy, and loving attitude and mindset is what really gives someone beauty.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

If you’re struggling, if you feel like you aren’t enough or think that you aren’t what society views as beautiful, just know that you ARE ENOUGH and you ARE BEAUTIFUL. You are the only you there is, you are unique, you’re one of a kind. Nobody can be you better than you can. Own yourself, express yourself, and LOVE YOURSELF.
