Tell us about yourself:
Hi my name is Reese. I’m 21 years old and originally from San Diego, CA. From the moment I could talk and walk my parents had me in dance and singing lessons, and I spent most of my childhood on stage and just fell absolutely in love with performing. When I was 16 I graduated high school and went on to study Philosophy Pre-Law at Tulane University in New Orleans and during my senior year became really passionate about content creation and social media marketing. Since then I’ve been able to make social media my full time job which has worked perfectly as I’ve started getting into modeling.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
Modeling was something I always dreamed about as a little girl. Every year my sister and I would watch the Victoria Secret Fashion Show in awe and would binge watch old seasons of ANTM. I always thought that I was too short to model so it was something that I admired from afar. Then I get scouted one day off Tik Tok and my modeling journey began. Since then I’ve gotten to do shoots for luxury brands like Harden and walked for some beautiful swim designers like Zippora and Porshia Banks at the first New York Swim Collective show. While I just started modeling 3 months ago, I have already had so many exciting opportunities and experiences.
What is your biggest dream?
I would love to be one of the first petite high fashion models. I think the industry is evolving everyday and already with swim wear there is little to no height requirement, which is amazing. I would love to see that extend even further into high fashion and one day walk for Paris or Milan Fashion Week!
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
Recognizing that beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. When you’re trying to take a photo of the sky or the ocean or the moon and the photo doesn’t come out how you’re seeing it in person you’d never blame nature for being any less beautiful than how you’re seeing it in that moment. Once I started thinking of beauty that way and also realizing that everything has automatic beauty to it it changed my entire perspective on how I viewed myself.
How would you describe your fashion style?
Bratz doll 1000%! I love playing dress up and it’s truly my favorite part of the day. I have my big high heeled boots and my low rise jeans which are always a go-to staple but I just love feeling like a doll. Sometimes I’ll play around with my fashion and lean more into the 70’s during the winter or the 60’s in the spring but always try and accessorize and have as much fun with my outfits as I can.
Who or what inspires you?
All the women in my family have all been so inspirational. My Abuelita immigrated here with my Papito in the 70’s with no other family in the states and had my mom and my tio’s. Just hearing about the sacrifices she made to make sure we would all get to live an life here always amazes me and is really inspiring. Then watching my mom my whole life hustle to get her doctorate of education and dedicate her life to providing educational opportunities to other Latino/a students has been incredibly inspirational.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
Just have fun with it, I think the scariest part at least for me was knowing what to do on camera. I would definitely recommend setting up some TFP shoots with photographers you know and just explore different poses, angles, expressions until you find what works for you.
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
Growing up with ADHD was really hard, especially since I didn’t get diagnosed till I was 20.I rarely showed up to class but loved learning so socialization was definitely a struggle when I was in high school. Since getting diagnosed it’s allowed me to have more grace and patience for my self and others.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
I think being passionate about something is one of the most beautiful/handsome traits I can see in a person. Just being able to watch their eyes light up and talk for hours about something you can tell they truly love is the most beautiful thing in my opinion.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
I’d say it’s a daily journey to self confidence and love and not something that comes over night. I think this was the hardest thing for me to accept when it came to self-confidence. I just wanted to wake up one morning and suddenly feel better about myself. Once I understood that it was a journey I was able to have more patience with myself and with that the confidence began growing. Take it one day at a time and everyday find a new thing that you’re proud of yourself for and soon enough you’ll have a whole list to look back on and feel good about.
