Tell us about yourself
My name is Savannah K. I am a 21-year-old petite model originally from Massachusetts, now living in New York City. I am currently a rising senior at the Fashion Institute of Technology, studying Advertising, Marketing, and Communications. I am also a freelance Editorial Stylist and have been published in over 25 different publications, including the notable Harpers Bazaar four times.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
I have walked in NYFW three times and have also been published in Style Cruze Magazine. I have participated in multiple test shoots as well as commercials.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to own my own Fashion Public Relations firm or Agency.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
As a petite model, I believe that no matter how tall you are or what you look like you are your kind of beautiful. I also believe that beauty doesn't only pertain to physical looks but also personality. The most beautiful people I know have the most kind and warm personalities.
How would you describe your fashion style?
I would describe my personal style as outgoing and unique. I like to dress for comfort while also dressing to present my personality and who I am through what I wear. I would not say I have a set aesthetic but dress more on how I feel and how I wish to look that day.
Who or what inspires you?
Audrey Hepburn, as a petite and (non-curvy) celebrity, Audrey has defined fashion for me as well as what I am to achieve as a model. During Audrey Hepburn's career, curvy and busty women (such as Marylin Monroe) were trending. Audrey overcame the hurdles of being seen as "flat" or "petite" during the time and paved the way for petite women everywhere.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
No matter what the current "trend" is, it does not matter how tall you are, your weight, your measurements, etc. anyone can model if you truly put the time and effort in.
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
As a petite model, it has been hard to gain respect and also credibility in the fashion industry, when there are defined beauty standards of what a "model should look like." I have had to fight that although I am short and small, I am just as much a model as anyone else and that I can in fact be a runway and editorial model.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
Personality. I believe that personality is what defines beauty.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
That you are beautiful no matter what. The only person that can determine your beauty is yourself. If you tell yourself you are beautiful and that you can do something then you can! No matter anyone's opinions or "standards' of beauty you are beautiful as long as you believe you are and present yourself with a confidence that exudes confidence- making you more beautiful.
