My name is Ya’nisse L. and I am an Afro-Latina. I’m located in the beautiful Garden State of New Jersey were I was able to place 4th Runner Up at the State preliminary pageant Miss New Jersey Teen USA. Founding my love for pageantry this year I won my first national title Miss Brilliance Teen USA. As someone who has suffered from bullying and my mental health I’ve made it my mission to impact young girls lives across my state through my organization Queens With A Purpose.

What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to become an actress. Television has always been my sense of comfort whenever I had a bad day, and it has been able to make an impact on my life. My goal as an actress would be to make an impact and be that comfort for someone else.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
Loving every aspect of yourself because that is what makes you unique, different, and beautiful.
How would you describe your fashion style?
I describe my fashion style as my personality. I have a very colorful, glittery, and eloquent personality and I love to show that in my everyday outfits.
Who or what inspires you?
Zendaya has always inspired me to chase after my dreams. At such a young age she achieved becoming an actress and model and she has showed me that anything is possible.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
This industry can be very hard, and it can cause you to become insecure about yourself. I’ve learned that society has set us young girls to these unrealistic expectations and I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to be perfect. You are beautiful just the way you are and you don’t have to change a single thing about yourself for this industry. The right person will pick you to model for them because they will want for who you are.
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed you or shaped you?
At 13 years old I suffered with my mental health and extreme bullying in unimaginable ways. Despite all the negativity that surrounded me throughout my middle school and high school career I learned to turn my pain into power and I started pageantry so I can be given the platform to make an impact on young girls lives who are struggling with their mental health. Eventually I created my own organization called Queens With A Purpose and I host my own events called “Queens Talk” in which I talk to young girls about the importance of mental health and mentor them.
What makes you beautiful?
What makes me beautiful is not my physical appearance but rather my heart.
What would you say to another girl struggling with their confidence?
I once struggled with my confidence too. Society and social media sets us to these unrealistic standards. I’m here to tell you that you are beautiful inside and out. You are the only you on this planet and that is what makes you unique, different, and beautiful.
