My name is Sanaa O. I am from the Mid Hudson Valley Region of New York, I am 16 years old. I love cooking, writing poetry and taking long walks.

Tell us about your modeling experience. 

I have walked in three New York fashion week shows; Jason C Peters New York fashion week show in February 2022, The Model Knowledge Group New York Fashion Week show September 2022, and the Dream Model Experience New York fashion week September 2022.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to be on the cover of the Vogue.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

To me being your own kind of beautiful means being your authentic self despite what others might say or think about you.

How would you describe your fashion style?

I don’t think I have a distinct style but I like to look and feel good in whatever I wear.

Who or what inspires you?

What inspires me is that when little girls that look like me see me on the runway or an advertisement they can see themselves and feel they can do anything and feel they are beautiful.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

My advice to someone who is just starting modeling is don’t compare yourself to other models there’s room for everyone in this industry. In this industry there is a lot of rejection to deal with. I say remember to never take it personally every designer and casting Director is looking for something specific and it might not be you this time but it could be you next time.

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

As a dark skinned African-American girl growing up in a predominantly white town I struggled with loving my skin and my hair. I was made fun of and it made me insecure. Over quarantine I learned about self-love and self-confidence, since then I say affirmations every day to remind myself that even though I may be different I am still beautiful.

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

What makes me beautiful is the kindness and respect I show everyone around me.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

To anyone my age that is struggling with confidence I would say never compare yourself to others. Everyone is beautiful in their own way and you deserve to feel confident within yourself.
