Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add).

My name is Olivia Van Dyke. I am 17 years old going into my senior year of high school at East Lansing.

Tell us about your modeling experience.

My interest in fashion continues to grow every day. I didn’t have any modeling experience until I joined two agencies near where I am located. I have learned so much about the techniques and basics to modeling.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to model internationally. I want to travel and inspire younger models with my life story and how I became the model and person I am today. I want to share my personality and who I am through my photos and through my style.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

To me, being your own kind of beautiful means to first, be who you are from the inside and then to convey that to the outside of your body. You have to stay true to yourself and form a healthy relationship with who you are and then choose to present yourself beautifully to everyone else, so that you can be seen on the outside by who you are on the inside.

How would you describe your fashion style?

I would say that my dominant style is chic. I love the powerful look that comes together effortlessly. My outfits tend to be monochromatic but with bold accessories or shoes. I would say that my style can tend to be whimsical as well. Every now and then I love an outfit with different colors and patterns. Although, I definitely have more of a chic style.

Who or what inspires you?

Someone who is greatly inspiring to me is Cara Delivingne. Cara is a world-famous supermodel and actress. Cara has revealed her struggle to self-acceptance and approval which caught my attention. When I learned her story of the battles she has fought to get to where she is, it reassured me. I myself have struggled with validation and loving myself. When I saw that someone as beautiful and successful as Cara went through the same struggle, it gave me faith that I can still reach for the stars and beat this battle of mine. Which indeed, is making me stronger and getting me closer to following my dreams.

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

I have faced many obstacles in my life. At 17 years old, I have been diagnosed with the following: depression, anxiety, panic disorder, and an eating disorder. I used to look at my illnesses as my weaknesses. Now, as I am only on the road back up, I look at them with how they have made me stronger. Depression lead me to a new outlook on life. It taught me to seek meaning and really try to live my life with the people I love and doing the things I love to do. Anxiety and my panic disorder have taught me to take things one step at a time, to focus on the present rather than worry about the future. My eating disorder has taken the biggest tole on me due to the effect on my mental health as well as physical health. It has helped me grow confidence in my body and loving who I am on the inside and out.

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

I think what makes me beautiful is who I have become and my intentions. I have worked so hard over these past years, putting all my energy into becoming the best me. I finally am feeling ready to share my story and inspire others, informing those struggling that they are not alone and can overcome any challenge that is put in front of them. I think that what makes me beautiful is the story behind the look on my face and pose I am forming with my body in a photo. I want my pictures to tell my story and to inspire people to fight the hardest of battles and to come out stronger. My intent and purpose are what makes me beautiful.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

To someone my age who is struggling with confidence, I would say to them that valuing yourself is one of the most important things in life. Your self-worth cannot be verified by others, only from yourself. Take it one step at a time. Think of little things you love about yourself that make you unique. Begin to love yourself little by little, continuously creating a healthy relationship with yourself. Confidence is fragile, make it powerful. Make confidence, your biggest strength.
