Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add):
I would have to characterize myself as a free-spirit who loves to try new things. I'm all about an adventure, and will try almost anything once. I am a very outdoorsy and active person, with my favorite outdoor activity being walking alongside the ocean. Born in St. Louis, MO but raised in Sacramento, CA, I feel like I've gotten the best of both worlds. I've experienced all 4 seasons that the Midwest has to offer, and the warmer weather that the west coast is known for. I really enjoy having my hand in a little bit of everything. I enjoy weight lifting, painting, singing and dancing!
Tell us about your modeling experience.
I began my modeling career working with Makeup Geek Cosmetics, appearing in promotional videos for their YouTube channel. I've modeled for pharmaceutical companies, furniture companies as well as companies in the food service industry. I have also modeled and have been a brand ambassador for a photographer. I have some experience in runway as well, having walked in a runway show hosted in St. Louis MO.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to fulfill the dreams of my younger self. I have always wanted to model, and I am doing that. I dream of doing what I love to do so that it never feels like work. Aside from modeling, I am working towards becoming a dentist.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
For so long, I rarely saw women in the industry that represented my body type. When I hit puberty, I had a very large growth spurt which left me with stretch marks that made me feel less than beautiful. As I grew older, I learned to embrace my body for the way that it was created and for what it is capable of doing. Being my own kind of beautiful means loving who I am- marks, scars and all, while showing others that look like me that they can make it in this industry.
How would you describe your fashion style?
Classic Elegance with a touch of glam.
Who or what inspires you?
I am inspired by women who wake up each day determined to make a change. For me, I look up to women like Tyra Banks, Ashley Graham and Michelle Obama. Each of these beautiful women has done something of substance within their industry that served as a catalyst for change in the future.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right! If you want it bad enough, you will put in the work to make it happen.
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
I have had many unique life experiences. I have survived domestic violence as well as being Black, curvy woman in America. Being heavier than my peers led me to believe that my body was less than ideal or somehow not worthy of existing because it did not look like the standard of beauty. As an African-American in a society that historically favors lighter complexions and looks down upon people of color, I have had to work twice as hard to prove myself. I do not regret any of these experiences because they have shaped me into the phenomenal woman that I am today.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
Outward appearance is not the only thing that makes one beautiful. In my opinion, my most beautiful asset is my heart because it is so caring, giving, and big!
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
It gets better! I've been in your shoes and while we have not walked the same path, I understand how you may be feeling. You will blossom into the best version of yourself and love who you will become. Stay positive, stay diligent in all of your endeavors and good things will come your way!
