Tell us about yourself:

My name is Shalee D. and I am from a small town in Florida. I am 18 years old and still go highschool; peeking my senior year! Some of my hobbies are photography, singing, and painting. I love taking pictures as well as being the model for the picture LOL. I have a secret hobby of singing that many people don’t know of, as well as painting which brings me peace. I work three jobs while making almost straight A’s in my classes, while still trying to begin my dreams in the fashion world. I grew up always wanting to go into modeling agencies, and fashion shows as it is my biggest dream, but I never got the chance. This is my chance now.

Tell us about your modeling experience:

 I am new in the modeling world, but I’m starting now before it is too late. So far I have modeled and advertised for Nikki’s Glitz And Glam Boutique, as I work there! Nikki’s Glitz And Glam Boutique is the largest selection of prom dresses and formal wear in the state of Florida, which is pretty exciting! Since working there, I have began modeling in their dresses as well as advertised on their Instagram page, and TikTok where we make videos in the dresses!

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream in life is to be successful, as well as happy. I want to reach a point in life where I am fulfilled with what I have and have accomplished almost every single goal I could possibly dream of; all so that I don’t have to worry about a single thing. Living through my passions is what is going to get me through life, and that is my biggest dream, to live through what I love to do. Time is so precious, and it goes by so fast; which is why I want to set my goals ahead of me, and have the ability to reach them one step at a time. My dream is to become a model, and maybe even take off to NY where I can pursue my career, but I may stay in Florida. A dream come true would be to be on the cover of a vogue magazine, or walk in NYFW!

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

To be your own kind of beautiful, is to be yourself. You and only you is what makes you beautiful. Everyone is different and beautiful in their own way. Being your own kind of beautiful, means to not be like everyone else. Beauty is in every single women and through modeling we can express that beauty, interest, style, and confidence into something that we love, and into something that makes us feel at home. A home to be who we are, and express that. There is a place to idolize someone, but trying to be like them is where the line gets crossed. Being you, is what’s going to make your own kind of beautiful. A kind heart is the key to beauty, because if you have that, no one can stop you or try to tell you differently. Don’t let anyone bring you down, and don’t ever let words affect you. As long as you stay true to yourself, no one can overpower your beauty. 

Describe your fashion style:

Fashion is like my everything. I don’t know what it is, but it’s like art. Having your own style, is like your own style of art, where you can express yourself in any which way you want. There are times you can even step out of your comfort zone, and express a style you never thought you’d like before. For me, I think having a style is like a home, because that is where you can be yourself in every which way, and you can express your style in every which way. For me I have taste for so many different styles, so it’s so hard to pick just one. To keep it short I would describe my style as a classy 90’s look. I always keep my self put together, but I also love that 90’s aesthetic. I put best of both worlds in one! 

Who or what inspires you?

 I have been asked this question a lot, and I have come down to my true answer, which is myself. I inspire myself, because myself is the only one in control of the things I can accomplish and do. I inspire myself, because I am still going, and still pushing for my goals. I live through everything I do, and myself is the the only one that will be able to  decide what my next step in life is. Having that ability is what is going to help me strive in life, because no one will be able to stop me because I am my own inspiration; and my inspiration in life is to keep going and never stop until you have reached happiness. Not only do I inspire myself but as well as my parents inspire me to keep going, and to be the leader. My mother has overcome so many hardships and has become stronger in the end; she is like my warrior. She will take all the challenges that come at her, and get through each one with determination and motivation. My father always taught me to be the leader and that rewards will be rewarded to you when you work hard and show a difference in the world. People will idolize you instead of you idolizing people, and that is what I have learned. Through them and myself I have learned that I am in control of my future, and my choices to get there. 

What advice would you give someone who is just getting started in modeling?

My advice for someone just getting started with modeling is to be yourself. Being you is what is going to make you different from everyone else; and that is what modeling is all about. Being able to express your differences, and beauty is what modeling is all about. The BEST advice to go along with this is to stay confident to yourself. Confidence is key! Don’t be shy in front of a camera, rather don’t feel insecure either. Through that camera, you can express the beauty YOU have, and the confidence YOU have, and to be proud of that. Be passionate about your beauty and dreams and don’t let anyone or anyone’s words stop you from reaching those dreams. 

Describe some obstacle you have overcome and how they have changed you.

 An obstacle that I have over come in my life, is the realization that I myself am in control of the life I continue to carry on. Thought life there are many people that can inspire you, and through that inspiration can lead you to wanting to be just like them. But what I have learned is the exact opposite, because I don’t want to be like them at all; rather I want to be myself but carry those inspirations with me in order to shape me into the person I am to become. This might sound a little confusing but what I mean is that you are in control of your life, and no one else is. No one can make your dreams happen, only you can, and whatever steps you take are the steps that carry you on.

What makes you beautiful?

Mentally my heart is beautiful. I have such a kind heart and soul, and I try to reflect that onto people every single day. Having a kind heart and soul is the key to my happiness, because I will always have that positive mindset. Physically, I would say my eyes are my beauty. I love my eyes, and am blessed with the one’s my mom gave me! They are like the ocean; bright blue with a burst of gold in the middle. They can even change color which is so amusing to me; they can go from light blue to a darker blue, to grey, and even green. My eyes can stop a crowd, and to have that power, is what I am grateful for. 

What would you say to someone who is struggling with their self confidence?

One thing I would say to someone my age struggling with confidence is to just love yourself for you, because what you were born with will never change. You have to learn to love yourself, because that’s the biggest thing in order to reach confidence. God has made people that way they are for a reason, and there is no changing that. If you’re struggling with confidence, I would say to just pop in front of a camera and give it a go. To just be yourself and be happy in front of that camera. Gain some confidence and courage to be in front of that camera, and stop those through to from telling you otherwise. You are beautiful.
