Tell us about yourself
My name is Jocelyn but you can call me Joce :) I’m 22, I was born in Malaysia and grew up in Florida, which is where I reside today. I love tropical weather, it’s pretty much all I’ve ever known. A fun fact about me is that I’ve done a bit of traveling outside of the states but not so much in. And that’s something I really want to do! I currently am a professional in the finance industry. I love a good personal challenge and I love surprising myself with my capabilities. I indulge in all kinds of music and I really enjoy meeting new souls.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
I’ve done more than a handful of shoots but never the runway. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do! I’ve appeared on a college fashion magazine and on a music video as well. I’m new but I’m quick to learn. I love the experiences I’ve had with modeling and excited for the experiences I will have.
What is your biggest dream?
To become a supermodel! To model in New York Fashion Week one day. Modeling has shifted my life for all the better. Ever since I’ve started to model it has made me more comfortable in the body and has improved the way I see myself, while simultaneously making a statement. It’s something I am passionate about. To see the entire world and enjoy it as it is <3
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
To be your own kind of beautiful is to be YOU—in the most raw and genuine form. Understanding that beauty radiates from all angles, not only physical. Your heart, kindness and intentions are some examples of components to a bigger picture. To be unique and unashamed about it! Beauty comes from within.
How would you describe your fashion style?
Hm, I feel my fashion style is everywhere! I enjoy wearing things I feel can make a statement look. Some examples of what I like are boho, boutique, grunge and chic fashion. Pretty much depends on the day and my mood.
Who or what inspires you?
My mother, no hesitation. She’s so headstrong and fierce. She carries qualities that I admire & she is the strongest woman I know. She’s like a magic woman to me, once she has a dream it doesn’t take long for it to become a reality.
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
I’ve had plenty of experiences that have shaped me into the person I am today. To try and sum some up briefly—anxiety, body dysmorphia, eating disorders, insecurities and low self-esteem have been obstacles I’ve fought hard to manage and eventually overcome. I have a great support system that reminds me of my strength constantly. Learning to love myself and to embrace my beauty has been one of my biggest challenges. It’s something I’ve worked to do for so long, and I do love myself with all my heart. That is a sentence I would have been so surprised to say years ago!
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
What makes me beautiful is more than meets the eye. My beauty comes from my heart, the empathic qualities I carry, my openness, my strength, always being understanding, and many other things! If we’re talking physical qualities, I love the way my legs look in photoshoots. I have high cheekbones and I love the way my eyes shine when I’m happy!
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
Somebody is always going to have something to say regardless. All of this is easier said than done, but don’t listen to them. Love yourself as you are, for your body is merely the vehicle of your soul. Take care of that vehicle. It’s the only one you got. Faking the confidence until you make it is a very real thing. Don’t speak negatively of yourself, even if it’s the way you feel. You deserve everything, and you deserve to feel beautiful.
