Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add)
I grew up in Holland, Michigan with my parents and older sister. I moved to Dearborn for college at the University of Michigan; during my time there I was on the cross country team, a member of Phi Sigma Sigma, and social media chair for the campus along a magazine through an internship. I graduated with distinction a semester early in December of 2020.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
I started modeling back in high school. I would mostly do it for fun with local photographers of people I knew who were looking to expand their portfolio. I’ve always had a love for photography in general, and enjoyed taking photos with my friends a lot too. I started up modeling for brands as an ambassador recently, and am so excited to grow more as a model.
What is your biggest dream?
I’d say my biggest dream when it comes to modeling is to be on a cover of a magazine one day. That and there are certain brands and runways I’ve always dreamed of being able to work with; I hope one day to be able to reach those goals! My biggest dream outside of modeling is to have the money to support not only myself but the friends and family I love too.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
There’s always been a certain beauty standard, and it’s constantly changing. I think being “your own kind of beautiful” is to focus less on whatever trends are going on/the things you wish you could change- and learn to love yourself for who you are today instead. I think that every person, every body, every face is beautiful in that we are each unique.
How would you describe your fashion style?
Honestly, my fashion style varies a lot. I love dressing up a ton and have been known to be a bit “extra” at times, but I also have days where I feel completely confident in sweatpants and my hair up.
Who or what inspires you?
My older sister, Michaela, really inspires me. Her and I weren’t super close as kids, but now we are basically inseparable. She’s currently at a fully funded art program in Ohio, and she never fails to impress me with her artwork and creativity.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
Remember to stay positive. Starting up can be hard, but once you get going more and more opportunities will come!
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
One of the main obstacles I’ve faced was with my mental health. In the past I saw my mental health as something to be ashamed of and I would try to hide what I was struggling with from others, but now I see it as something that makes me stronger and shaped me into who I am today.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
I think above all else your personality is the most important. I truly believe that no matter how beautiful you are on the outside, if you’re not equally as kind, then it doesn’t count. What makes me beautiful is my passion, my determination, and my love and acceptance for the people around me.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
I’d teach them about being your own kind of beautiful. It’s easy to compare yourself to others- but there’s no one definition of beautiful. It’s not just about appearance; you can be confident in your personality, the way you treat people, or whatever it may be. Something that used to help me that I’d recommend to a person too is to list of all of their positive qualities about themselves and learn to focus on those rather than any insecurities they may have. You don’t have to have everything to be happy with yourself.
