“Pretty, young, and taking on the world”

Hi there my name’s Chelsie, I’m 21 years old, and I’ve been modeling for a little over 3 years now. I go by the model name “pyt.chelsiee” and being a model is truly something that I’m the most passionate about in my life. “PYT” can have many meanings, but I chose this one for a reason. Ever since I was a young girl I’ve had big dreams. It started as a rock star, a doctor, then a singer, a dancer. I was always dreaming big about who and what I could be, what I could do. I had an unfortunate childhood and was surrounded only by examples of who I didn’t want to be when I grew up which only made me work harder. I’m an advocate for mental health, suicide awareness, and body positivity. All being things I’ve struggled with in the past or still fight with today. I’m outgoing, adventurous, and always down to try new things!

Tell us about your modeling experience.

I started modeling for Laurasboutique in 2019 and it just spiraled on from there. I was trying to get myself out there more and was messaging local businesses asking if I could model for them and the first business to take a chance on me was Second Dance in Grand Rapids. The owner asked me to model a Jovani dress on WZZM13 for her store and of course I said yes. I’ve walked in 2 fashion shows for Second Dance as well. After doing lots of work for Second Dance, other bridal stores and businesses reached out to me such as Dearly Loved Bridal, Letter shoppe, Faviana, House of Hawk and Holly etc. I’ve been nonstop pushing myself out of my comfort zone to become the best model I can be.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to be able to do what I love for a living, and make a difference while doing so. I grew up less fortunate than others, and I’ve had no help with this modeling journey of mine. I’ve struggled with eating disorders, and mental illnesses all my life and I want to prove to others that you truly can overcome any obstacle life throws at you and still be your best self. I want to bring confidence to those who feel they don’t deserve it, because I’ve felt the same exact way.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

To be your own kind of beautiful to me, means you should always be your truest and most genuine self. Once I stopped trying so hard to please others, I finally started accepting myself and falling in love with myself for the first time ever in my 21 years of life. I will continue to preach this from the rooftops, JUST BE YOU!

How would you describe your fashion style?

My fashion style is a mix of my own aesthetics and trending fashions. I’m always switching up my look because I think the world of fashion is too large and beautiful to just stick with one style. I like to mix vintage with modern, and also love up cycling clothes. I truly think there’s not a piece of clothing or type of aesthetic that I couldn’t make work!

Who or what inspires you?

Who inspires me? Those who I have met throughout my modeling journey are who inspire me. I’ve met some of the strongest, creative, and most inspirational people within the past 3 years than I’ve ever met in my whole life.

What inspires me? My past and a better life. Constantly working towards being a better me than I was yesterday. My past self will always be my only competition.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

My advice to someone who’s just starting modeling, just put yourself out there! Shake out all the shyness and worry of not being good enough or worthy because if I can do it then so can you! Stop comparing yourself to others and just focus on yourself, building your confidence, and the goals that you want to achieve! Don’t get discouraged by others who are ahead of you. We all take different paths in life, just continue to work hard and you can accomplish anything you set your mind to!

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

I’ve been through so many obstacles in life I could write a book about them, but I don’t let them define me nor hold me back! Growing up less fortunate in a run down house I was constantly made fun of, and bullied by many. I had to switch schools at one point, just for the school I switched into to be even worse. I went through many eating disorders, including binge eating, bulimia, and body dysmorphia. Depression and anxiety settled in at a young age, and the suicide attempts followed shortly after. 3 attempts from the age of 13-16, and I thank god everyday that I never succeeded. I developed BPD over the years and that’s now something I battle with on top of my depression and anxiety. No need to lay it all out but I definitely have been through a lot but I DO NOT let that stop me from pursuing my goals and dreams. I truly think what I’ve been through in life has helped shape me into who I am today, and is my biggest motivation to succeed in this lifetime.

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

I think what makes me beautiful is my kind heart and how I’m always willing to go above and beyond for others. It’s so easy to be hateful these days and I continue to choose peace and love. Doesn’t matter if they’re my friend or a complete stranger. I will always be a genuine person with only the best of intentions.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

It’s so easy to be hard on yourself, so start taking the challenge of loving yourself again! Give yourself positive affirmations every single day. Don’t worry about what others think! I promise once you stop stressing so much about how others view you, you’ll start living your best and most confident life! I’ve struggled with being confident ever since I was a young girl in school, it didn’t just magically appear one day either. I had to work towards that confidence and loving myself. Block out the haters and just BE YOURSELF! I promise you’re worthy of self love.
