Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add):

Hey guys! My name is Kaitlyn Medina; I am 21 years old, and I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. I committed to play college softball at Concordia University Texas and am now a senior studying Finance and Accounting. I no longer play softball and decided to take my modeling career to the next level and have not looked back since.

Tell us about your modeling experience:

I joined my first modeling agency in Austin, Texas in 2018 and I had lots of fun working with Austin Fashion Week designers and also walked in three fashion shows for AGACI. This was the beginning of my career and I fell in love with being outside of my comfort zone. I then started networking more and more and had the opportunity to walk in NYFW in February. This helped me build more connections in the modeling industry and I was able to build more and more momentum. I was published in Getty Images and have taken every opportunity I could to get in front of a camera.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to grow into the women I was meant to be. I want to be great in everything I do, and just having the OPPORTUNITY to do so, can open so many doors that lead to endless possibilities. I want to be a businesswoman, a role model, a recognized model, intelligent, funny and everything in between because women have that ability to be.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

Being your own kind of beautiful means you are confident enough to not compare yourself to other women. Being your own kind of beautiful means you have that ability to bring other women up instead of breaking them down. Having confidence in everything we do as women can be intimidating to some, but praised by others. Doing whatever makes you happy in life, can lead to your own internal beauty. We only have one beautiful life to live, so why not live it the way we want? Without asking, but knowing we are living it just the way we imagined.

Who or what inspires you?

I carry several people in my heart when I think about inspiration. I look at my mother and see strength and drive. My father shares that same energy of love, drive, hard work and determination. Inspiration in my eyes comes from the best qualities of every person I meet. One person may inspire me to stay motivated, another might inspire me to love, another may inspire me to be kind to everyone we meet.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

My advice to someone that is just getting started with modeling is to see everything as a positive. Always take every opportunity you can, and this applies to life in general. Your odds will be greater if you take every chance you can. Also, take every “no,” and see it as “one step closer to your yes.” Taking everything as a positive in this industry can help you grow as a person and it can lead to building strength.

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

A major obstacle I have overcome in my life is having to go through my mom getting diagnosed with cancer. I had to see the strongest women I have ever met, become vulnerable to everything around her. This taught me that vulnerability also takes strength. It is okay to ask for someone’s help in life.

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

I do not think beauty is defined as a physical trait, but a mental and spiritual trait. I think what makes me beautiful is my ability to look at everything in a positive perspective. I am driven to always see every failure, as a “good failure.” Failure leads us to success, and when we do not focus on our failures as a negative, that’s the beauty of GROWTH. We have to struggle a little bit, so find beauty in growth.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

For anyone that is struggling with confidence, remember that there is a purpose behind everything you do. Believing in yourself and taking control of your life can open your world to endless opportunity. No one is perfect, and embarrassing our imperfections is what makes us unique. Always remember to just be yourself, and do not be scared to be.
