Tell us about yourself.
I am a teen model of Belizean and Malaysian decent from New York City who aspires to establish a career as a super model and fashion designer. I am a blue belt in Mixed Martial arts and coauthor of the published book, “Scholastic Writers of Tomorrow; The Reused-Food Machine.” I also have a passion for fashion design which has motivated my passion for modeling. My love of fashion was sparked when I began taking fashion design courses at the New York Fashion Institute. I spent summers taking courses in the Pre-College fashion design program. I am a visionary who takes pride in my work, and in bringing a designers vision to life on the runway and in photoshoots. Modeling is an inspiration. It fills me with strength and confidence that motivates me to work harder. I know the hard work that designers put into every detail of their pieces. I see myself as a human canvas that bring each designers visions to life on the runway. I know modeling is my passion and I want to pursue all the opportunities and benefits modeling has to offer.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
My first modeling opportunity came about when I was scouted out by a modeling representative from New York Barbizon School of Modeling and Acting while shopping in a clothing store. Soon after graduating from Barbizon, my modeling career took off. My accomplishments in the fashion world include runway training with Strike-A-Pose Model and Talent Management, and Victoria Henley and Rio Summers of America's Next Top Model. I have modeled designs and participated in fashion runway productions for Magnifique by Victoria Henley, Heritage Indian Designs by Prashant Goyal, H&M, GAP, Macy’s, Uniqlo, Old Navy, The Model Experience by Meagan Good, Rainbow Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week, EPN Fashion Week, Champs For Autism, Bronx Fashion Week, Brooklyn Fashion Week, and Walk Fashion.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to become a super model, fashion designer, and role model. As a role model, I dream of using my fashion platform to practice philanthropy and to inspire youth who face adversity.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
To be my own kind of beautiful means knowing that my beauty exudes from the inside and that makes my outside perfect just the way it is. The pressure of Social Media can make us think that we are not physically beautiful, and that is not true. We are all beautiful in our own unique ways. No person is exactly the same and that is the kind of uniqueness that makes us all beautiful. The key is to believe in yourself and your inner and outer beauty will shine.
How would you describe your fashion style?
I would describe my fashion style as trendy with my own twist. There are always new fashion trends popping up. The fashion designer in me motivates me to take the latest fashion trends and add my own style. I don’t have a preference of one particular style category. However, I tend to gravitate towards chic, elegant, and edgy.
Who or what inspires you?
One of my biggest inspirations is my mother. She has instilled my values and persistent work ethic. My role models in the fashion industry include, Christian Siriano, Zendaya, Luxury Law Roach, Taylor Hill, and Winnie Harlow. To me, they are the true definition of being your own kind of beautiful both in modeling and as designers. They inspire me to take my talents and push them to the next level no matter what obstacles may come my way.
What have been your greatest accomplishments?
I have been fortunate in accomplishing my goals at an early age. As a toddler, I was featured as a model in the textbook, Parenting A Preschooler: A Complete Guide to Preparing Your Child for the Classroom written by R. McClure and Vince Iannelli, MD, photographer Susan Bates. As a young philanthropist, I participated in a video submission contest powered by Super Model and actress, Zendaya. My video was selected out of hundreds of thousands and featured on Zendaya's website. In the video, I shared how I give back to my community during the holidays by donating toys to children and families who are less fortunate. In the fashion world my accomplishments include features in The Model Featurette and Ooh So Glamorous magazines. My accomplishments also include, modeling designs and participating in fashion runway productions for Magnifique by Victoria Henley, Heritage Indian Designs by Prashant Goyal, H&M, GAP, Macy’s, Uniqlo, Old Navy, The Model Experience by Meagan Good, Rainbow Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week, EPN Fashion Week, Champs For Autism, Bronx Fashion Week, Brooklyn Fashion Week, and Walk Fashion.
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
One obstacle I recently faced was the loss of my grandmother to lung cancer. My grandmother’s lung cancer was caused by environmental factors such as secondhand smoke. Her loss has encouraged me to get involved in educating teens about the dangers of smoking and vaping. I plan to use my fashion platform and proceeds to host lung cancer awareness seminars for teens. I would also like to raise money to help those who suffer from lung cancer and are in financial need for medications and additional medical resources. My grandmother always encouraged me to persevere though life's challenges and always share my blessings with those less fortunate and that has been forever instilled in me. I plan to make her proud!
What makes you beautiful?
What makes me beautiful is that I do my own thing. I don’t follow the crowd and try to be someone I am not. I am shy, caring, loyal, honest, and maybe a little too nice, but that makes me who I am. I have my own style and outlook on life. My self respect, nurturing spirit, and acceptance of others are the beautiful qualities that people have told me they admire about me. My beauty exudes inside and out.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
The advice I would give a girl/guy that is struggling with their confidence is to not let others define you, and your mind is your biggest enemy. If you tell yourself negative things or listen to others views of you, negative energy will encompass you and you will believe those negative thoughts. On the other hand, if you tell yourself positive things, positive energy will come to fruition and will bring out your best you! Telling yourself positive things is only half the battle. You must act on it, show it, own it, and believe that you are perfect, flaws and all. You have a unique purpose in this world. That is the key to confidence!
