Skylar L.
Tell us about yourself.
I grew up in sunny Los Angeles, California where I acted for years before moving over 2,000 miles away to New York to attend Rochester Institute of Technology. Now 19, I pursue modeling and acting part time while I attend school full time. I have also founded a non profit organization called EPIC that inspires and helps cancer victim/survivors.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to make a positive difference in this world, whether it’s through a career or a general impact that I create. A general theme I try to live by is “give more to this world than you take”.
My biggest aspiration is for humanity to be a little more kind to one another. This world can be so cruel to each other, it is important to be uplifting every day.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
My own kind of beautiful is unapologetically loving and accepting yourself. Becoming comfortable in your skin can be a lifelong process so it’s important to treat yourself beautifully.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
My modeling experience includes being a children's clothing model during my childhood and recently some small regional projects and student projects.
What is your dream brand to model for?
My dream brand to model for would be Target because I absolutely love their inclusivity message they promote. I would also love the opportunity to work with Free People or any of their sister companies.
How would you describe your fashion style?
My fashion style is sexy chic, I love the flowy freedom of brands like Free People and Anthropology. A small lace dress with a simple hat would be my ideal outfit.
How important is self-awareness and confidence to you in your everyday life?
In my everyday life, self-awareness and confidence play one of the biggest roles in my mood. If I feel confident and sexy in my clothes, I glow externally and I walk with a spring in my step. But in a different aspect, if I feel like a made a positive impact, my confidence becomes visible.
What makes you beautiful?
For me, my passions and drive make me feel beautiful. While clothing also can make me feel special, achieving a goal makes me more confident.
What would you say to another girl your age who is struggling with their confidence?
My biggest piece of advice would be to focus on things that make you happy and your confidence will soon grow. Being happy on the inside will shine through.
