Tell us about yourself

My name is Valerie S, I’m 20 years old and i’m based in Virginia Beach, VA and I am a first generation American! My family is originally from Ukraine, and my first language is actually Russian! I’m a versatile creative with talent ranging from acting, modeling, singing, dancing, rollerskating, handstands/acrobatics, fashion, etc.

Tell us about your modeling experience.

My experience with modeling was cultivated by my passion for fashion! As a small business owner, being a creative defines my versatility in the realm of art; not only do I sustainably rework the vintage or creative piece into a wearable work of art, but I also style and model pieces as well. Coming up with creative shoots to draw the attention of an audience is imperative, which organically expanded into a passion for modeling as well. I have collaborated with various photographers on numerous concepts, and my experience in dance gave me important knowledge regarding lines and angles as well as overall comfort in front of a camera!

What is your biggest dream?

My ultimate goal is to build an empire for my future family, and be able to infinitely expand my network with fellow creatives that constantly challenge each other to grow. I hope to spread strong values and morals such as discipline and integrity, which are crucial to an artist’s authenticity. In addition to this, my dream is to have a platform that provides knowledge and inspiration to seek peace through art and movement therapy, and overall educates people on natural healing and wellness as an alternative to modern day therapy and medication.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

Being your own kind of beautiful, regardless of an external presence, is defined by the intention and purity of an individual on a day to day basis. There is so much beauty in the little things, and there is nothing more beautiful than carrying a conscious intention to make the world a better place one day at a time. Being your own kind of beautiful is pouring the same love and care you give yourself into others, and vice versa. There is so much beauty in staying true to your values and morals, and holding your boundaries with grace and intention.

How would you describe your fashion style?

My fashion style is undeniably eclectic. I firmly believe that the concept of “look good, feel good” is very real, and I feel my best when I an able to combine as many different styles as possible. My fashion style is heavily influenced by emotion, which translates to texture, color, accessories, etc! There is no limit to my style, and no box that I fit in! One day may be a high fashion inspired outfit, and the next day I will flow through my day completely barefoot!

Who or what inspires you?

I am heavily inspired by my inner child. She fought so hard growing up to be able to express herself through art, even against her parent’s wishes. What she wanted she would get, through hard work and fueled by creative passion. My inner child’s persistence and determination has made me the woman I am today, and inspired me to carve my own path in life.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

My best advice is to look your best to feel your best! Take it one step at a time, and set an intention for every look, shoot, post that you make.

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

Coming from a Ukrainian family, my parents really valued my education and while I do value it as well, unfortunately they were very set on having me stick to a more traditional procedure in life. This ultimately pushed me to get emancipated at 16, and graduate high school early. While I did make some steps to achieve a higher education, I quickly realized the value of doing my own research and prioritizing my passions over my parent’s satisfaction with my life. This led to me dropping out of my business classes in college, and starting my own LLC! I have learned that there is not one right way to live life, and that time is something you never get back. Why waste valuable time and happiness as a young person and sacrifice my art to study something I have always been capable of? This is one of many obstacles, and the example of not becoming a doctor, lawyer, or engineer is just one of my examples. I have ultimately overcome the feeling that I NEED to live my life a certain way to make others happy, rather than relying and trusting myself and my ability to build my own empire!

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

Outside of my eclectic style and unique genetics, my most beautiful quality is inarguably my ability to see the beauty in little things. Everyday is its own challenge, and appreciating beauty in little moments has trained my brain to be more positive which has ultimately spread through interactions with strangers! There is a difference between confidence and cockiness; being able to stay humble and hardworking while having confidence in myself and my craft are by far my most beautiful traits!
