Tell us about yourself
Hi!! My name is Elyon U, I’m 23 and I’m from Connecticut. I’m currently an Undergrad Junior in college working towards a major in Biology and a minor in Criminology. I’ve also worked as a Certified Pharmacy Technician for the past five years. I’ve always wanted to be a model and actually got into it from watching the Victoria’s Secret Angels' catwalk. My dream on the runway was to be a VS Angel and I’m hopeful that I can still achieve a version of that. Summer is my favorite time of the year because I love the warmth it brings. I love to be in the sun. I also love the beach and the sound of waves crashing against each other. The beach is my happiest place and where I feel most at peace.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
I’ve been modeling unofficially since 2018 and have walked a few small shows and worked with a few designers and photographers. I am so excited for this journey and definitely have a willingness to grow in this field.
What is your biggest dream?
I have a lot of dreams and I don’t consider any of them to be bigger than the others but my ultimate goal in life is to be happy and feel fulfilled in whatever career path(s) I choose to follow. I want to be a great surgeon, but I also want to be a world-famous runway model!
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
To be my own kind of beautiful means to be comfortable and happy in the body God gave me. I don’t have to look like everyone else to be me and that’s okay. There are so many humans on this planet, but no two people are the same, even twins! Being my own kind of beautiful means embracing the uniqueness that makes me who I am.
How would you describe your fashion style?
I would say my fashion style is definitely ever-changing. I tend to wear what I feel comfortable and confident in. Every so often, I go back and forth with redefining my style and depending on what I like more, that becomes my style till my next change.
Who or what inspires you?
My biggest inspiration in everything I do is my mother. She is the strongest person I know and she continues to be the best role model to me and many other people everyday. My mother is also my biggest supporter and is someone who remains proud and encouraging of me. I aim to make her proud and give her back tenfold the best life possible. In the modeling world though, its Naomi Campbell. She inspires me to be my true unapologetic self and to own that confidence in my skin. I look up to her so much and a dream I have is to meet her someday.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
As someone who is also somewhat just getting started, I would say just do it. Send that application, send that email, call that agency, DM that scout on IG. You never know what doors it could open fort you. Also be open to growth in the field and constructive criticism. It’s the only way you’ll ever advance and improve yourself. Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do it!
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
I’ve defiantly been though some things but the most recent and most eye opening was getting diagnosed with myocarditis in April 2023. It was really hard to be in the hospital feel like life was slipping away. The hardest part was not recognizing who I was when i looked in the mirror. Even though I’ve been cleared by my doctor, going through this illness has given me a new outlook on life and I intend to use the rest of it well for all its worth.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
I think something that makes me beautiful is my sense of positivity. I try to stay positive about everything everyday and it has helped me live in a way that is stress free. Staying positive about things give me the opportunity to take things in stride whether good or bad. I think it is a good way to go through my days.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
With the rise of social media, filters and all the works, it gets really easy to compare yourself to others while feeling small and uncomfortable in your skin. One thing you have to remember is that not everything you see on social media is real. A lot of it is curated to appeal to certain viewers and does not look that way in real life. Your body is doing its best to keep you moving everyday so remember to be proud of it. You are beautiful and unique just by being yourself! Remember, no two people on this planet are the same! :)
