Tell us about yourself
I am a young 35 ;) and am located in Charleston SC. After a few life-changing events, I made a decision to spearhead my modeling career this past year! I’ve spent the past 10 years plus in the DOD, with a focus on empowering women in the workplace. I want this mantra to translate into modeling and fashion. I am also a single mom of two beautiful and God-loving children!
Tell us about your modeling experience.
I am an emerging model and fashion enthusiast who recently began my career by walking in New York Fashion week. I have since personally booked multiple runway shows (including heading back to NYFW in February) commercials and photo shoots. My early background includes experience in theater arts and dance. I live in Charleston, SC and have the ability to travel to most major cities (CONUS).
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream would be to significantly enhance my children’s live through my successes in the modeling arena! My daughter has also expressed interest in Modeling and I would absolutely be the proudest mom for her to join alongside me!
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
Being your own kind of beautiful means embracing your God-given qualities, and not being concerned about the thoughts of others. It may have taken me 35 years to get to the point of not caring, but somehow when you don’t care, everything about you becomes more beautiful!
How would you describe your fashion style?
I usually am drawn to editorial and full glamour looks. Bright colors, funky clothes, etc.
Who or what inspires you?
Besides God and my children, I would have to say I take a lot of inspiration from my peers. There are two models (one teen and one young adult) who have more or less reverse-mentored me as a new model. Their successes and wisdom at their ages has been so inspiring for me to watch!
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
Always be nice and network, network network! You never know how briefly talking to a designer, photographer or other model may progress into a friendship, future job, etc!
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
I’ve dealt with being one of the only females in the male-dominated defense industry. I’ve had to work harder and smarter than my male colleagues at times, while also being compensated significantly less. Because of some of the challenges that I have experienced in this arena, I have become a strong advocate of women empowerment; this experience has motivated me to influence the modeling and fashion industry for the better.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
I believe beauty is all about perception. What makes me beautiful is how I feel about myself. To this point, self-love becomes extremely important!
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
Confidence will increase with experience and time; it is not developed overnight. When I need immediate confidence boosting, I know that pushing myself outside of my comfort zone is important. Whether it’s volunteering for a speaking role at work during a presentation or volunteering to attend a new women’s group at church. It may sound scary at first, but usually once I get into things I am happy that I pushed myself!
