Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add)

Hi! My name is Elizabeth and I'm 22 years old. I'm from San Jose, California and frequent the Bay Area and Sacramento because I went to UC Davis. I recently just graduated and work as a Registered Behavior Technician! Other than that, I have been dancing almost every genre of dance since I was 6 and I started modeling when I was 15.

Tell us about your modeling experience.

I first started off modeling in China for a photo company and then completed my first pageant in the U.S. when I was 15 where I won Miss Talent. The Miss International Fashion Travel Pageant introduced me to a lot of photographers so I would model for their companies or their friends' clothing lines. During that time, I also walked the runway for some designers, such as Ellie Mei. I ended up becoming a judge for that same pageant years later. When I was 21, I entered my next pageant, Miss Asian Global, where I won Miss Asian Congeniality. I'm really excited to serve on court for the next year and help around the community. I was also exposed to more opportunities during that time which led me to modeling for some smaller NYFW designers, such as Jessica Schmidt.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to become a medical doctor and work with underserved communities. I love being able to serve my community and make a positive impact in other people's lives!

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

My own kind of beautiful is someone that is enchanting, driven, and passionate. It means that I am confident in myself and that I don't compare myself to others. It also means being beautiful from the inside out.

How would you describe your fashion style?

I think my fashion style depends on what event I'm attending. When it's casual, I like wearing comfy but trendy clothing pieces. I would like to think of my aesthetic as New York Chic.

Who or what inspires you?

My mentor, Francis Kong, inspires me. He was my pageant coach for Miss Asian Global, and taught me all about confidence and performance. I am grateful for everything he helped me with and he just has the biggest heart.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

My advice is to keep trying and to be confident in how you look. One of the biggest mistakes is trying to be or look like someone else, but modeling agencies seek out unique faces, so as cliche as it is, be yourself.

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

An obstacle that I've overcome in life is my eating disorder. As a model and dancer, it was very hard for me to maintain my size to the "appearance-ideal." I've worked with many nutritionists and psychologists to figure out what works for me, and I think having that professional guidance has really helped me love my body. Now, I advocate for better eating disorder support and volunteer at the National Eating Disorder Association.

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

My empathy makes me beautiful. Even if you can't see it from the outside, I always will put myself in others' shoes in order to understand them from their point of view.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

There is no other person who can tell you to "be confident" or to "love yourself." That person has to be you. No matter how many times someone tells you you're beautiful or handsome, it's hard to believe them unless you learn how to love yourself first.
