Tell us about yourself

My name is Julissa. I'm 19 years old and I am from a small city called Nashua, New Hampshire. I am studying entrepreneurship at the University of Tampa, hoping to merge modeling and business into my career soon! I’ve always had a passion for fashion and now I want the world to see it.

Tell us about your modeling experience.

I am an armature model that has loved posing for the camera ever since I was little. I have modeled for a formal gown company back home called Glitterati. I want to elevate my profile and skills so that I can one day work with my dream brands.

  • What is your biggest dream?

  • My biggest dream would be to walk runways for a career. Being in Miami swim week, New York fashion week etc. Being on the biggest billboards in Major cities. Modeling for luxury brands like Versace, Prada, Fendi, you name it, I will be on it!

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

  • Being your own kind of beautiful means not letting anyone dictate the way you live your life. Taking the hate of your peers and turning it into the motivation to be unapologetically yourself will let you have the strength to be beautiful in your own way. Not letting anyone take away from the beautiful things that you like to do will have you glowing.

How would you describe your fashion style?

  • I would describe my fashion style lately as futuristic, chromatic, y2k inspired, classic chic. I like to change aesthetics sometimes but that's the beautiful part of fashion.

Who or what inspires you?

  • My mother inspires me because she knows how to take struggle and turn it into success and happiness. My mother inspires me to always try and to never give up. She tells me to take every opportunity and tells me to put myself out there and to never give up on what you really want. Watching her struggle to take care of me when we were less fortunate made me realize that no matter what obstacle comes in my way there's always a way to overcome it and end up winning in the end.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

  • My advice to someone would be to never be afraid to put yourself and your interests out there. Rejection and criticism are inevitable; so just make every step you take a confident one.

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

  • Some obstacles I have overcome were my insecurity of just being myself. I have always struggled with my image growing up and trying to be “different” but fit in with the crowd. Learning that “fitting in with the crowd” is just causing self-harm because no one is “normal”. I have learned to embrace and be confident in myself

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

  • I believe my positive outlook on life and the positive passion I have towards myself makes me beautiful. Being able to nurture my friends and family is also something beautiful that I have as well.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

  • To anyone who is struggling with their confidence right now, please don’t let anyone tell you are not good enough. Let every step you take be one that you won’t regret making. Listening to all the negative comments will only hurt you so be strong and don’t let your haters win. Be the one who stands out of the crowd in your own way. People will tell you “You're a follower” by doing things that make you happy. Don’t let anyone dictate the way you want to express yourself. If you like something, stick to it and make it yours. Your confidence is YOURS and no one else's.
