Tell us about yourself

Hi! My name is Madeline and I  currently live in Iowa. I am twenty years old and just graduated college! I love to sew and make my own clothing from sustainable sources and like to think outside of the box when making a new project. I also enjoy hiking with a goal of visiting all of the national parks.

Tell us about your modeling experience.

I started modeling in college for our program's magazine BRICOLAGE. We did many photoshoots in studio settings, outside, in classrooms, and even in boutiques. I have walked in local shows in the Cedar Rapids area for the 237 Collective showcasing local talent and shops. I also take pictures of myself and have just started learning how to edit and capture photos. I am excited to see where I will go with modeling and can't wait to take it to the next level.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to walk in Paris Fashion Week or to be showcased in Vogue magazine.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

Being your own kind of beautiful is to know that there is only one you in the world and that is something that can never be taken away. It means never comparing yourself to others because we all move at different paces, and to love yourself through the good and bad times no matter what.

How would you describe your fashion style?

My style is comfy casual. I like to pair jeans with a simple T-shirt or a light jacket. I also love to layer clothing in the fall and match almost every outfit that I can with a pair of my Doc Martens. I never miss a chance to dress up, and will always go in what makes me feel like me.

Who or what inspires you?

I am inspired by those who always push themselves to be better than their yesterday self. I believe that the person I should be chasing and dreaming of being is my older self because I know I put in hard work and therefore made my dreams as a little girl come true.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

Just go for it! If you never try the answer will always be no. Put yourself out there even if things seem scary or unrealistic. You never know unless you try and trying is always better than wondering.

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

I moved around a lot when I was younger and the constant change in environment was a hard concept for me to grasp. As I look back I have definitely grown from knowing that adapting and change is a good thing because that means growth. Never knowing when the last time I am going to do something makes me live in the present and appreciate the people and atmospheres around me more than I did before.

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

My height makes me beautiful. I am taller than the average height for a woman but I think that is what makes me unique and also stand out (literally).

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

Do not listen to what others have to say about you if it is in a negative light. Everyone will have an opinion about you, but the only one that matters is the one you have on yourself. Do what makes you happy and what makes you feel like the most you and the rest will follow.
