Tell us about yourself
I’m Jennifer D. 29 years old. Born and raised in Detroit Metro, and now reside in a home outside of Detroit and also in Tulum, Mexico. I am a U.S. citizen and Mexican Resident! I am a Master Scuba Diver, almost to the level I can teach, as well as a free diver and monofin diver. I have recently lived out my little girl fantasy of becoming a Mermaid, with the colorful mermaid tail, shell bra and all! I’m also getting into travel blogging and writing for magazines. As well as I am a personal trainer, and am currently taking a class to become a certified yoga instructor. I am very passionate about the environment and ocean conservation and donate a lot of my efforts and time volunteering my time and philanthropy with a few different organizations down in the riviera Maya.
Tell us about your modeling experience. - I
have been modeling the last few years. This past July I was in Miami Swim Week with Krissy King the Label, and in the mean time have been invited to a few other fashion and swim weeks, like Las Vegas in August. I do a lot of modeling for my online platform, as I am also a successful influencer. I model with a professional photographer at least twice a week!
What is your biggest dream? -
My biggest dream is creating a retreat for girls to come as they are. It will incorporate modeling, healing, yoga, Ayurvedic culinary, scuba/free diving/monofin diving etc. For us all as women to support each other on our growth, while simultaneously healing together. I have taken my first step in creating this with a group I just launched called @therivieramodels. This is a modeling club, where we pride ourselves on collaboration, networking and most important, philanthropy. Half the monthly proceeds earned for each club is going to 4 beautiful environmental projects in the riviera Maya. From turtle rescue to coral restoration, we are here to make a difference. We are the riviera models.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?-
Being beautiful comes from the heart. Being authentically and unapologetically you. Accepting yourself for everything you are, the shadow and light sides of you. When we hold space in out authentic selves we allow others to hold space in theirs, causing a ripple effect of self worth, self compassion, and self love.
How would you describe your fashion style? -
I would describe my style as urban, boho chic and a little bit of 90’s. I’m loving the throwback of the low drift, bell bottom jeans! I always like to keep my looks chic, yet simple. Not to much where it deters from the simplicity of the outfits ambiance.
Who or what inspires you?-
Hardworking, disciplined, make it happen type of people motivate me. People who always find a way, even when there is resistance. I love watching people, especially fellow boutique owners, entrepreneurs, models reach the next levels of their progress. That’s what is empowering to me. Seeing like minded, passionate creators push themselves out of their comfort zones, leveling up their abilities. Showing to others hey, if I can do it, so can you!
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling? -
Whatever you dream, you can create. Trust the process, and don’t rush. Do intuitively what feels right for you and your personal goals. Being beautiful physically is one thing, but it’s more important to be beautiful from your heart. Be a kind, loving person. When you hold gratitude in your life, this makes room for more gratitude and abundance to shine through. Never stop reaching for your dreams, you can do anything you put your mind to!
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you. -
After my grandparents died of cancer, and now my mother in law and mother have different medical diagnosis as well, this has made me realize we need to treat each day like it’s our last. We need to wake up with a grateful heart that we are healthy, happy and able to create our dreams. So many people in the world are on auto polite and I make it a point to be conscious in my life, for the people in my life who are hurting. I go hard everyday for them. Also, rejection has been an obstacle that presents itself time and time again. I used to let it discourage me, and bring me down with self doubt, fear that I’m not enough. Now, I know it takes multiple no’s to make a yes. That’s just the way it works. Showing myself love, compassion, self worth, during those times, ultimately knowing something better is coming and unfolding for me in that space.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
My authenticity, positive will power and good intentions for all. How you do anything is how you do everything. I show up to everything the same, with a go getter will power and discipline. Many people have told me my radiance or aura are magnetic and I light up their life even when they’re at a dark place.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?-
We all struggle with confidence. You are not alone! But you can’t let the fear of loosing or rejection, stop you. Perseverance through that energy will build your confidence and make you a more courageous, resilient person! You can do it, despite your nerves I promise you that.
