My name is Alisha Hickey, but I go by Ali, I am 20 years old and am from Dalhart Texas. I currently reside in Corpus Christi where I am studying to get my bachelor’s degree in sports management.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
When I was 15 years old I started modeling for a mother agency called Diane Dick Legends, I was active with Diane’s agency until I was 17. While working with them I shot with photographers such as Shelli Wright and Jimmy Bruch. Attended runway workshops with Jan Strimple and walked in one charity runway show. After relocating to corpus, I have worked with local photographers.
What is your biggest dream?
One of my biggest dreams growing up was to walk in Milan Fashion Week, which is still a dream of mine today. When working with Diane two of my close friends within the agency traveled overseas to Milan and Greece participating in shows and I immediately knew I wanted to do that someday.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
To me, being your own kind of beautiful is all about your inner beauty. Beauty radiates from the inside out, being unique and true to yourself will always bring out your best virtues. My grandmother has always told me that in order to be a pretty girl you need to have a pretty heart.
How would you describe your fashion style?
Personally, I have a lot of trendy neutral pieces in my closet, but I have always been looking to try out new things!
Who or what inspires you?
My grandma inspires me, she helped me begin in the industry and has always been one of my biggest supporters day in and day out. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
My biggest advice to someone just getting started is to have fun with what you’re doing! The more you are enjoying yourself the more you will radiate!
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
One of my biggest obstacles that I have had to overcome not only in modeling but in everyday life as well is anxiety. This has been one of my biggest struggles and put so much pressure on me when I first started out, but with the support from others I began to get more comfortable in being myself.
What makes you beautiful?
I think something that makes me beautiful, as well as others, is authenticity. Like I said before, beauty radiates from the inside out!
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
Confidence is all about self-love, you are you and that is so beautiful. As human beings we won’t be able please everyone, someone once said “you could be the juiciest peach in the world and there’s still someone who doesn’t like peaches.” Therefore, embrace who you are and do not be afraid to show it!
