Tell us about yourself.

I’m Annie! I’m 24 years young, I was born in Cambodia in 1998 and was adopted when I was almost 1. I was adopted by two moms and we have lived in Connecticut since I was around the age of 4 after moving from Vermont! I went to RHAM High school, was captain of our gymnastics team from freshman year-senior year and placed 10th in the state of Connecticut! After high school, I went to college for music education and now teach middle schoolers private lessons on piano and saxophone! They are my world! Ever since then, I got my barbering/cosmetology license and am working full time at a barber shop! But modeling and photography are my passion, so pursuing it as a full time career is an amazing opportunity!

Tell us about your modeling experience.

I have been a freelance model for about 3 years now. I started with one of my good friends and have branched out to New York, and Mass! It’s been a hard, but amazing journey and I cannot wait to start more!

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream, is to show every women, every girl out there that beauty is for everyone. No matter your size, where you’re from, what you look like, anyone can model and anyone can be a model. Confidence is key, you don’t need to be the most confident person in the room, but if you see you’re true beauty, and everyone has it, the world would be a much kinder place.

Describe your fashion style.

My fashion style skips from very casual sweatpants, to the most dressed up person in the room. It depends all on how I’m feeling that day, along with what the vibes are for the day. If I’m going to grab a coffee and hang out with the girls, I’d thrown on some kind of pants and vest over a sweatshirt, if it’s more fancy, I’ll put heels and a sparkly dress. My fashion sense changes everyday aswell! Whatever catches my eye is usually my fashion sense!

Who or what inspires you?

I know this sounds terrible, but for many heads of my life and now, I have been mg own inspiration. I’ve put myself in hard positions, I’ve been put in tough situations, and I always endure and figure out a way. Sometimes a solution is hard but it’s not impossible and I’ve showed myself that nothing is impossible. Everyday I grow more and more. I’ve had mental struggles, anxiety, but going through the motions and surviving over the years, I’ve inspired myself to be better everyday and every year than I was before.

What advise would you give to someone just starting in modeling?

My advice to anyone starting modeling, don’t talk down on yourself. You may see others out there, happier, healthier, but that’s not the real life. Do what you want to do, say no to people you’re uncomfortable with, make decisions that make you happy not anyone else. Always believe in yourself even if someone else doesn’t. I’ve been doing this on my own for 3 years and almost gave up, but it’s a passion and a love of mine so I kept at it and look where I am today!

Describe some obstacles you have overcome and how they have changed you.

When I was adopted, it was hard fitting in with a completely white high school. I have a birthmark on my cheek that everyone called me names for. I barely had any friends, and the fact I had two moms didn’t help the situation. I learned that I was different, but a beautiful different, and that’s why everyone was so rude. They didn’t understand and they’d never been out in a situation to deal with someone like me. I went through high school ashamed of who I was and kept asking why I didn’t look like everyone else. I went through a really rough period of time where I didn’t want to be there anymore, but I realized that everyone has a purpose, I’m here for a reason, there’s a reason I’m so different and I have to embrace my beauty and embrace myself completely. Now I have a confidence no one else has seen. I’ve had all those people from high school come and apologize so I know I’m doing something right.

What makes you beautiful?

My kindness makes me beautiful. You can never judge anyone unless you know them, and even if you do, you don’t know everything that’s happening in someone’s life. Being kind to everyone doesn’t hurt you, it doesn’t take any of your happiness away, but it sure as heck adds love and happiness to someone’s day.

What would you say to some one who is struggling with their confidence?

If there was a younger girl struggling with confidence, I’d first ask, who’s making you feel that way? If it’s yourself, you’re your own worst critic. You think everything you do isn’t good enough. But if you ask any other girl, she’d say the exact same thing. Everyone has doubts and things about themselves that they don’t love, it’s learning to love yourself that radiates confidence. If it’s someone else, they probably don’t want you to success above them. It’s a terrible thing to think about in this world, but I’ve experienced it. When you get a grade higher than someone, or an opportunity they you get they didn’t, people get sour and rude and would rather you be unhappy below them than happy above them. Never listen to someone else who is only rooting  the worst
