Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add)

Greetings everyone, I am Ajanay Brown. I am a 22-year-old scholar, model, artist, and educator. I was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida but, I currently reside in Tallahassee pursuing my dreams at The Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University.

Tell us about your modeling experience.

I began creating at a young age. When I was about 10 years old, I started drawing even though I had no idea what I was doing. I continued and eventually art transformed into something much more. I began to feel confident enough to express who I really am. I then started to wear clothes that I felt right in and with outfits, I began to take pictures. As my sister would say, “You’re always in front of the camera.”. Although I loved art, I began expressing and creating with local photographers.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to be a mural and paint a mural. I want to see myself on a large scale in the store, on a billboard, or even Times Square! Not only is it a dream to be showcased at a large scale as a model but, I would love to physically showcase my art skills on a building to where hundreds of eyes can see at the same time.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

Being your own kind of beautiful doesn’t necessarily coincide with one’s physical features. Instead, it emphasizes your core. I believe that you must accept the person deeply within yourself to experience the true beauty of life.

How would you describe your fashion style?

I would describe my style of fashion as “MOOD”. My style varies based on which Ajanay I feel like being that day. It may go from street style, to business, to athleisure, to girly girl, to preppy, etc. I enjoy expressing a story through my style.

Who are what inspires you?

My mom inspires me the most. I appreciate my friends, family, and support system as well. I can say my mom was my very first cheerleader. She never told me to stop, instead she always asked me “What’s next?”. She believed in me from day one and she is the reason why I made it so far today.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

My advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling is to continue. Continue to make yourself happy, continue to learn, continue to grow, continue your dreams, continue through the tough times, and continue to love yourself. Typically, you’re going to fight for what you love. Stay open-minded, try your best, and continue because this is your moment to fight for yourself.

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

The biggest obstacle I have overcome is feeling accepted. I went through a phase when I compared myself to others on the internet. I felt as though I was behind in life. Eventually, I found my true self and began to act on that. I began to make myself happy through creating, I gained confidence, and began to speak higher of myself. Once I figured out how powerful words are, I changed my mindset. I am now thriving because I accepted who I was instead on waiting on others to accept me.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

I am here to tell you that it’s not too late. It will never be too late to learn yourself, to accept yourself, and to love yourself. Speak highly of yourself as if you are the Queen/King of the world. Be patient with yourself and teach yourself a new skill called Love. Show yourself what it feels like to be loved before you try to seek it from others. You are the best you that you can be. No matter how hard someone tries to be like you, they can never be you, and that’s the joy in being an individual. Create the identity you want to be and be your own proof that anything is possible.
