Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add)
My name is Laura Lis and I was born in Madrid, Spain. I lived in Spain for eleven years before moving to South Florida. I am nineteen years old, but soon to be twenty in November. My hobbies include; hanging out with my friends, going to the beach, and playing piano.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
My modeling experience is rather new. I have done a lookbook once for a bikini company, however, it was just for fun and to help their social media out. I am delighted to be taking part in such a phenomenal agency this time around.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to live my dreams and become financially independent while doing so in order to support my family like they have supported me. I believe in giving back to those who love you, and I can’t wait to do so one day. Another big dream of mine is to take part in different humanitarian foundations to help others around the world.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
As the expression goes, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” I believe that superficial beauty in our society is so discomforting. Due to social media standards women as well as men are confined to be perfect 24/7, which is detrimental for many people’s mental health. What many believe is beautiful, others will not, and it is important to understand that beauty is deeper than the surface. When someone is kind, proper, intelligent, and hardworking and portrays it through their beliefs and mannerisms, is when someone, in my belief, is the most beautiful they could ever be.
How would you describe your fashion style?
I would describe my fashion style to be modern chic. I like very minimalistic accessories and basic colors the most. Colors such as black, white, and tans are what I am drawn to the most. However, I am never afraid of adding a fun pop of color to my clothes. It is always fun to try different styles because that way I can be exposed to new experiences.
Who or what inspires you?
My mom inspires me the most. When she was younger, she was scouted by an agency, but due to financial problems she was never able to fulfill that dream of hers. She has always gone above and beyond for me and my brother, and my biggest fulfillment is to make her proud.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
The best advice I could give someone who is getting started modeling is to just go for it. Opening yourself up to new ideas and new people can be hard sometimes, but if you want to succeed it is important to step out of your comfort zone and try new things.
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
Unfortunately, I deal with severe anxiety that has caused me several panic attacks in the past. This has become a big obstacle in my life because these panic attacks can be so severe that it may stop me from going places, focusing on school, or simply to feel good about myself. However, this has made me stronger because I have done everything possible to control them through meditation and writing down how I feel, and I have not let that anxiety take over any more time from my day to day. I am a big advocate for mental health awareness, and this has encouraged me to speak out about it and help others who may deal with the same thing.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
I believe that what makes me beautiful is my outlook on life. Everyone is imperfect, human, and in the day and age we live in today our society has obsessed over the definition of what it is to be “perfect”. I see people for what their actions are and how they treat others, and I hope that one day that may be the new definition of “perfect” or “beauty” that society will see. So what makes me beautiful is my kindness and compassion for others.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
Fake it until you make it! I swear it works. Confidence is just a belief system in your brain. Confidence does not revolve around the way you look or portray yourself. Confidence comes from within yourself, and it is a process to build it up. Acting as if you already got it will eventually help you attain it, never give up.
