Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add):

Hi, I am Kyla Smoke, from the Onondaga Nation, which is 10minutes south of Syracuse, NY. I am 22 years old, Native American (Onondaga, beaver clan) and I just graduated from college in May 2021 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts: Graphic Design. I also played two D3 level sports: Women's Volleyball and Women's Lacrosse. I enjoy working out and beading, which is native artwork.

Tell us about your modeling experience.

I have very little modeling experience, I have only done maybe two small photoshoots but I am so excited to be able to live out my dream with this agency!

What is your biggest dream?

There are so many dreams I have but to list a few is to travel the world, I have been to three countries thus far, another dream is to start my own clothing design business and another that I have always wanted to be a model for as long as I could remember and to walk in fashion shows. One dream that I did accomplish is graduating from  college.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

Being your own kind of beautiful to me is being comfortable in your own skin and having confidence in what you wear. It's living for yourself and not what other people expect.

How would you describe your fashion style?

I wear basically everything but it would mostly depend on how I'm feeling that day. Most days I dress casual and some days I'll dress edgy or boho.

Who or what inspires you?

Growing up I never had role models to look up to, I wanted to experience life and travel.  I want to make a change and come back to help my community grow and show that there is more beyond the nation and to not be afraid to step out your comfort zone.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

As someone who is just starting with modeling, I would say not to compare yourself to others who have experience, just to have fun and be open to learn new things and always believe in yourself that you can do all things and succeed.

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

There are many situations that I have gone through especially from a very young age but that one is more personal. I did sort of get an eating disorder from it a few years later in the 4th grade. After I got better, I was introduced to basketball and volleyball and that was where I was able to let out any steam of any sort. I always put any anger or upsetting feeling I had into my sports activities. In 2016 and 2019, I lost both my grandfathers, I was very close with both of them and it hit hard. One was just my final year of high school and he always came to my games for all sports, so it was difficult to look into the stands and not see him sitting there. He would've been so proud to be able to watch me play at a collegiate level too. And my other tota, passed during my second year of college and I struggled with class and work but I pushed myself because part of his final words to me was to study hard and I ended up with the best GPA I ever had in my life that semester.

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

I think what makes me beautiful is my soul and personality. I always try to make people happy even when they are feeling down or sad, I try to help them look on a positive side to situations. I try to always smile and brighten other people's day and occasionally I'll give a stranger a compliment just to see someone smile. I like to help people feel good about themselves.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

I would say that everyone lacks confidence in some sort of way, if they have someone they idolize and want to be like, they should also know that that person probably struggles sometime as well. No one is perfect, everyone has some sort insecurity about themselves, you just have to be willing to not let it get to you. It's just learning to keep your head up and staying strong.
