Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add).
Hi, my name is Tyra Bodrick. I am 16 years old and I was born in Charleston, South Carolina but I currently live in Temecula, California. I play two different seasonal sports: Field Hockey during the fall season and Track & Field during spring. Some of my favorite hobbies are reading, listening to music, and spending quality time with friends and/or family.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
Over the past couple years, I’ve gained an interest in the aspect of modeling and the business structure of the career itself. I’ve taken a couple personal shoots of my own that I’m still proud of to this day. Despite all of the research and knowledge that I've learned about becoming a model, this is my first signing with a well-known agency!
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream would have to be moving to a large-scale city, such as New York, and becoming an independent business owner or entrepreneur. I’ve always been particularly fond of city-life and I believe that I would definitely be able to achieve greater goals in a well-populated area that has multiple opportunities to be offered!
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
Personally, to be your own kind of beautiful means to fully accept who you are and scout out different ways to embrace your natural character. Being beautiful doesn’t necessarily fall under the well-known beauty standards that have been set around the world. Beauty comes from within and I will always hold that close to my heart, along with my mind.
How would you describe your fashion style?
The best word to describe my fashion style would be diverse. My style switches up pretty frequently, depending on how I’m feeling that day. For example, I could wear an outfit that incorporates a 90’s theme one day, and go for a more elegant, classy look the next. However, I love the concept of fashion and the reality that fashion styles are changing every day, which brings new looks to choose from!
Who or what inspires you?
On a personal level, my parents are major inspirations for the reasons that I’ve become the young woman that I am today. They have definitely taught a lot of life lessons growing up, that I will certainly apply to certain situations in the future. On a more realistic point of view, I would say that my achievements inspire me to push further ahead, in order to gain better expectations and create higher standards for myself.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
First off, we are in the same boat considering that I am currently just beginning my modeling adventure. Second of all, try not to worry about fitting the beauty standards that are associated with modeling or the fashion industry in general. Be your own you and as time progresses, the confidence that you have will grow into something more amazing than it already is. You got this, you just need to be patient and believe that everything happens for a reason!
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
A major obstacle that has most definitely affected a majority of the world’s lives, is Covid-19. Having to go through an extended amount of quarantine combined with the stress that the world may never return back to the way it was, shaped my own mindset into becoming more independent. I’ve always been an independent person, however, being able to go through a self-care journey over the past couple months has molded me into someone who is more confident in themselves, and the choices that are currently being made.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
What makes me beautiful is the fact that I don’t judge or determine my own belief of a person based on what others tell me. I know that rumors circulating around people can provide a reputation that won’t benefit their future, yet I believe that everyone has a good soul inside of them that just needs to be brought to the surface. I always try to remain social with the people around me, because you never know when someone needs that one person that they can depend on.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age struggling with their confidence?
Ignore beauty standards or any other form of expectations that have been formed against you. Everyone has different qualities that make them unique in their own way, which is what truly is beautiful/handsome! Try not to compare yourself to the typical girl/guy that everyone holds a high regard for because no one’s perfect, even if some things might point to the opposite.
