Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add).
Hi! My name is Olivia Fonville and I am from Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. I was born in Winston Salem, NC, but moved to FL when I was still young! I love being in the modeling industry because it has led me to meet so many amazing people who I still have great friendships with. I also love being able to express myself and learn to love myself for who I am and not who the world wants me to be.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
I have been modeling since the age of 14. Once I started I could not stop. I began with a small local agency in Jacksonville, FL called Sessions Modeling. I got some great local gigs, from St. Augustine Fashion week to photo shoots for a local Jacksonville magazine. I spent a year and half modeling with Sessions and learning the ins and outs of the industry. At the age of 16 I told my mom I wanted to dream bigger, I wanted to sign with a New York worldwide agency. And my mom helped me achieve that goal. I was just 16 when I flew up to NYC with my mom and signed my first modeling contract with Major Model Management. Katia Sherman was the president at the time and I’ll never forget how much she encouraged me. From then I modeled in NYC, Florida, and even Los Angeles! With companies such as Hoka One One and the Anthropologie Bridal line, I have been blessed to have been on so many amazing sets.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream would be one day be a best selling Author and motivational speaker. I want to use my experience with modeling and sports to impact and inspire others. I hope to write multiple books based on the experiences that have shaped me into the woman I am today.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
My mother has always taught me that beauty is not about what’s on the outside, but what is on the inside. I have carried this with me all through my modeling career. Because the industry can make you believe there is a certain standard of beauty you have to be, so many girls forget where their true beauty lies. And to be your own kind of beautiful is so important. We have to remind ourselves that we are made in the image of Christ, made perfect in His eyes, and all our different qualities on the outside are beautiful and distinct.
How would you describe your fashion style?
I would describe my fashion style as current and modern. I love keeping up with the newest trends. I also do love to express myself and my personality through fashion, so I will add some of my own style:)
Who or what inspires you?
I would say my family inspires me. Everyday they all push me to be the best I can be. We always keep each other accountable and give each other good words.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
My advice to them would be to give it everything you got! Always keep a positive mindset no matter if you get a job or not. It’s hard to grasp that there will be more no’s than yes, but that is just how the industry works. No matter what never lose faith and never lose sight of your dreams!
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you?
I have faced many obstacles throughout my life. In volleyball and in modeling I have had to overcome some challenging times. I had two coaches in my life who verbally abused me during practices and in public during games. It was such a trying time. Being told you’re not good enough is something no one wants to hear, especially on a daily basis. I experienced that in High School as well as my first year playing in college for a NCAA Division two team. But through this traumatic obstacle I was able to become stronger. I was able to relate to others who have been mistreated, abused, etc. It gave me a new sense of empathy to relate to others. It has been experiences such as these that have made me a strong and independent woman.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
What makes a person beautiful is their heart. You can have all the looks in the world, but at the end of the day if you are not a kind, loving, or compassionate person, you really have no true beauty. Being kind to others, having compassion and love for them is where true beauty lies. It is on the inside, not just the outward appearance.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
I would ask them where they find their identity, and where they find their happiness. Because it is these two concepts that are the foundation of a person’s confidence. I would encourage them to do little things each day that pushes them out of their comfort zone. To take risks and do the thing they want to do but are too scared to do. Because it is when we put ourselves in uncomfortable situations that we truly grow and learn as individuals.
It is also important to encourage them that they can be confident. They can express themselves to the world.
