Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add)

Hello, My name is Megan Rebecca Jutzen. I am a Canadian born model from Mississauga Ontario, with a South African heritage.  I have been freelance modeling since 2019. I am an advocate for diversity and all things body positivity. I have had the pleasure of working with industry professionals from Toronto, and building my portfolio based on collaborations. When I am not modeling I am most likely thrift shopping, I used to work for a sustainable vintage store where I fell in love with setting up outfit lays, or styling a mannequin. My passion for finding a new way to wear something previously loved grew from there! I am also a promo model/ brand ambassador for various XM marketing companies; you will most likely find me strutting down the streets of Toronto with the latest food or beverage for you to try. I thrive in a positive out going environment that will allow me to bring my personality to the forefront of any task at hand. Fun facts: I am also a cat mom, I enjoy all you can eat sushi monthly and live for live music and summer music festivals. I’ve hung up my rave gear but always ready to dance any time I hear a beat.

Tell us about your modeling experience.

As mentioned earlier, I have been modeling freelance since 2019, finding any brands or photographers willing to collaborate and grow together. I worked with an inclusive underwear subscription brand, where I hoped to inspire woman of all shapes and sizes to feel confident and sexy in their skin. Last summer, I also entered a competition to be on the cover of Maxim Australia, I placed 6th in the quarter finals and was in the Top 1% overall. This summer I am walking in a virtual fashion show for Fashion Art Toronto for a local Toronto designer.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to be published in a print magazine, Vogue, Vanity Fair or Sports Illustrated to name a few. I’d also love to walk in New York or Paris fashion week! As long as I am on a runway or in front of a photographer my dreams have already been fulfilled.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

To me, to be your own kind of beautiful means you are whole heartedly your authentic self. You have looked from the outside in and are proud of the person that you face in the mirror every day. Beauty is skin deep, it can be perceived far beyond your looks.

How would you describe your fashion style?

My style is forever changing. I am very influenced lately in the laid back 90s aesthetic, a pair of jeans with a white tee and oversized blazer is my go to- topped off with my chunky Fila’s or White Air force ones. Comfort is key, so you will almost always find me in sneakers. I also love a chic loose flowing pant with a bodysuit or bralette finished with a denim jacket or long matrix coat. My favourite accessory would have to be layered necklaces and small hoops, paired together can elevate any look!

Who or what inspires you?

The woman in my family inspire me, they are strong independent South African woman who carry themselves with grace and class. They have paved the way for me in all aspects of my life, I am reminded of their own struggles with finding a place in the world and remember that no problem is impossible to overcome or move past.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

The best piece of advice I can give to anyone looking to start their career in modeling would be to apply everywhere. There are so many modeling agencies always eager to find new and interesting faces. Everyone has their own brand of beautiful, one that may not have yet been explored. Do not discourage yourself (because list faults here). Carry yourself with passion and confidence; you will be surprised; to find you are just what the fashion industry is looking for. You may have to take 100 no’s before you receive one yes. KEEP GOING.

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

I’ve had to overcome a lot not only did I battle with my body image being labeled too skinny but I also battled with an identity crisis growing up as a mixed- race woman. The world around me made me feel different because everything about me did not fit into one exact culture. I want to use my platform to remind man and woman of any racial background that we are seen and add value to the forever changing fashion industry.

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

What makes me beautiful is my bronze skin, dark eyes and thick curly hair. But beyond my physical appearance my real beauty is within, seen in the way I carry myself as a mixed-race woman, navigating social norms and staying true to myself.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

To the woman my age who live for social media, we buy into the perfect lifestyle of the influencer every day. But in order to hold strong to our confidence we mustn’t compare ourselves to others- instead focus on what makes you get out of bed in the morning, focus on what you can do to better yourself for YOURSELF. Manifestation is a powerful tool; create the life you want to live and live it every single day. Trust the process, not everything will happen all at once.
