Tell us about yourself.
Hello, my name is Bdenam Charlotte Toyisson. I'm from West Africa, I moved to the state when i was 11 years old. I've been professionally modeling since I was 15 years old. but i have been doing it since youth in Africa without knowing it. ( there more to that story). a little about me, I am very adventurous and always on the move for the best opportunity. During my free time, I like volunteering. Mainly at a nearby community center or a soup kitchen. I love being around friends and family. I thrive to have positive energy around me and always look for ways to help others and mostly the ones who are in need.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
Earlier I stated that I have been modeling since youth in Africa without knowing it. I said this because, as a kid we went through a harsh time where we have no idea where our next meal will come from. and often will see my mom go to bed on an empty stomach while my brothers and I eat the little we had. After gathering some money, my mother taught herself how to tailor and make clothing from fabric. I will then wear them out in town, events or school. getting recognition and showcasing her works on me eventually brought in clientele for her. She went on having her own coutier shope and made clothes for people while I was still modeling through the town in one of her many works. This is where I develop my love for fashion and modeling. From the age of 15 I started professionally modeling, I have experience in runaway, prints, magazines, video shoots, and TV appearances.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to get a contract with Victoria's Secret as one of their angels, and me being a pursuer and having passion to make my dreams come true. Making it as a Victoria secret model will be the highlight of my career.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
To me this means loving who you truly are regardless of what society or others says, having and giving the respect you deserve to have to yourself and appreciating where you came from because after all that is what makes you. It means respecting each person and their opinions, beliefs, hobbies and the way they choose to live and enjoy their life. Never Judge others however they view the world or themselves and encourage others to see and appreciate every flaw they have about them. (Those flaws, like many that I have, make me unique and happy and it's what makes them uniquely beautiful as well).
How would you describe your fashion style?
My style is comfortable, but fashionably comfort. I tend not to dress to impress, but to be happy, free and I can enjoy myself in. ( this doesn't mean i just look whatever) This can go from making athleisure look high fashion and wearing sneakers as "dress up" shoes. Fashion styles involve anything and everything and they come and go, but putting the pieces together with the right accessories with a little smile. You will be the brightest star around.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
Don't give up. you will hear a million no’s, but use that as an empower move, use that to find your unique self and use to find what makes you different and work that.
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
Never giving up, coming from an African family. i was told pretty disgusting things by family members who stated that i will nothing but a failure who turn as sex worker if i grow up. But instead of letting that wreck me, it makes me work harder in the industry, to stay true to myself and know my limits and worth. It pushes me everyday to reach for it and it is still the very thing that drives me to conquer the modeling world today. I will not become what my enemies spoke of, I will reign the modeling world everything I touch will turn to something and I will be known as Bdenam Everywhere and I will put out a path for other young girls to never let anything or anyone demilish their dream. I WILL SUCCEED AND GET THAT VICTORIA SECRET CONTRACT! Many generations after me will see me as an example to why you should not let others scare you or baffle you.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
my smile, attitude, and how I treat others.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
The only way you can have other people see you as a beautiful person is when you see yourself like that, those things that make you unconfident. Those are the things that shape you, that make you unique. that makes you stand out of the crowd, so cherish it. not everyone what you have only you have and only you have to love it first before it can grow.
