Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add)
Hi! My name is Ocean Medlock, I am 15 years old, and I am from St. Augustine Florida. I have a passion for many things including fashion, journalism, modeling, acting, and so much more. Ever since I was little I knew I always wanted to be someone who accomplished many things and to be apart of something more than just myself. I love helping others and making sure everyone around me is as happy as they can be. I enjoy traveling, hanging out with my friends, shopping, and spending time at the beach.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
I was 13 when I got signed to my first agency and when I really began to take modeling and my career more seriously. I am signed with two other modeling agencies located in Florida, Bailey's Entertainment Group and Denise Carol Models. Before I knew I wanted to become a model I always loved taking pictures with my friends for Instagram; so that's really where the passion started. I have shot with Kristia Knowles and Katelyn Adair. And I also have actually gotten the opportunity to shoot with Disney which was an amazing experience that I will never forget.
What is your biggest dream?
The biggest goal is to just be heard and for people to know my name, I want to make an impact on others in any way I possibly can. Whether that's through social media, my modeling or even acting. I enjoy every single one of those things so being able to pursue them would be the biggest blessing.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
I truly believe every human is beautiful no matter what. So, being on this planet makes them beautiful in my eyes. That being said, everyone is also unique in their own way, so being unique and being here makes them their own kind of beautiful. They just have to learn to believe it too.
How would you describe your fashion style?
I love this question because fashion is something that has always interested me and I am very confident with what I wear. To sum up my style, I would say I wear a little bit of everything, I don't like to label it in anyway because it is not just one thing and even if I tried to I don't think I could. Everything I wear is on a broad spectrum of fashion, whether it's indie, boho, chic, etc. I mainly just wear what I feel expresses me. My style is not just one thing just like how I am not just one thing.
Who or what inspires you?
My parents are my biggest supporters and also my biggest inspirations. They have been through so much and they are the strongest, most driven people I know. They can accomplish anything they want too and I aspire to be just like them. They have helped me so much with my dreams and I couldn't thank them enough for their support.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
I would say to always work on poses and make it fun! This job is so amazing and such a blessing so it is important for it to be enjoyable too. Also, patience is super important. This industry is not a race and certainly not a yes factor. Rejections are likely, but that will also be the thing that makes you stronger as a person and as a model. Another thing to keep in mind is to never doubt yourself, you can do anything you want to and all it takes is hard work, so if you are willing to put in the effort to accomplish what you love, then go for it! Life is way too short not to.
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
Like I said, I have faced many rejections in this industry, but it has only given me the opportunity to become stronger and more prepared. Also, in the past I have dealt with depression, anxiety and faced many insecurities. Mental health is super important to me and I am very grateful to be as happy as I am now, but it hasn't always been like this. Overcoming depression has made me more aware of the mental health of myself and others and has also given me another passion of helping others with their happiness too. I was able to come to the realization that hard work and putting effort towards yourself and your self-love should be a number one priority especially if you are struggling mentally.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
Feeling beautiful hasn't come so easy to me. But, over time I was able to gain more and more confidence the more I worked on myself. Personally, I think my ethnicity (being filipina), which gives me my tan skin is beautiful, and what's on the inside. I think my kindess and positivity is one big thing that makes me beautiful too.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
I promise it won't always be this way and you will eventually find yourself and your self love. The more you work on yourself, the better it gets. Also, it is important to not care what other people think of you. At the end of the day, how you view yourself is all that matters. Think about it this way, we are all living on a floating rock and we are just small things apart of it, so the negative energy and words brought to you will never ever matter. You are so beautiful and so worthy no matter what anyone says.
