Tell us about your modeling experience.
I’ve done fashion shows and shoots in the Philadelphia area. Working with different photographers gave me some insight on everyone’s style of shooting. It’s allowed me to break out of my shell and embody my true character.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to be on the cover of Vogue. I’ve always been obsessed with fashion magazines and editorials. I would cut up my favorite images and glue them to poster boards on my wall. What I love about fashion is that it can be edgy, it can be glamorous, or it can evoke charisma all in one photo.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
To be my own kind of beautiful means to be creative and uniquely me. Seeing black women in the mainstream like Naomi Campbell or Duckie Thot help me believe that I can do the same. Black women are constantly told that their brown skin isn’t desirable. Seeing people of all different cultures, shapes, sizes, and ethnic backgrounds is a true representation of what the modeling industry should look like.
How would you describe your fashion style?
I would describe my fashion style as changeable. You’ll never see me in the same type of clothing all the time, even down to my hairstyle. I’ve always loved my late grandmother’s fashion style. Black trench coats, berets, and 80s attire have all been implemented in my style today. When she worked as a seamstress I really got to explore the styles of clothes and art forms that really make up different fashion looks.
Who or what inspires you?
My mom inspires me the most for her strength and wisdom. She constantly encourages me that I can accomplish anything I set out to do, no matter how many obstacles I encounter.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
My advice to someone who is just starting is to always be yourself. You are beautiful in your own way. No matter how many agencies turn you down, you always have to be confident in yourself and know that you’ll seek other opportunities.
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
Some obstacles that I’ve overcame are my experiences with anxiety and depression. Living with anxiety has been the hardest thing to deal with. I think many young people at my age struggle with childhood trauma and overcoming adversity. It takes a lot of footwork to get to a place of good mental health. Through modeling, cooking and art it’s become an escape for me to express myself in a healthy way.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
What makes me beautiful is that there’s only one me. There isn’t one person on this planet that can be replicated. That’s what makes us all unique.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
I would tell another girl or guy to never give up. Life isn’t a destination, but about growth and prosperity. There’s always something that needs to be worked on and we can all achieve anything we set our minds to.
