Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add)
Hello! My name is Antonette Young. I am 21 years old, and I grew up in a small town known as Warner Robins Georgia. Growing up, I was the shy girl who didn’t know her own worth. Others seen it in me more than I seen it in myself, and it caused me to settle in my natural talents. I was more of the girl to be in her room, writing in her journal, listening to all types of music while taking selfies, and more than likely ending my night off with a good romantic movie.
What is your biggest dream?
In my family, dreams were an illusion. Never real nor meant to become my reality so dreaming? Unfortunately no. I was told to go to college, pledge for a sorority, and shoot for the highest degree possible. As I got older, in due time, I realized that was not the life I wanted to live nor was using my natural talents. So, I stopped attending Georgia State University, and moved to New York as of recently to pursue my dreams of becoming a model while doing something else I loved. Esthetics!
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
How I see it, To be your own kind of beautiful you have to be able to look in the mirror and see beauty within and without. You have to be able to see your light, your passions, your desires and fulfill them no matter what anyone else says! To be your own kind of beautiful means to be you authenticity and unapologetically with grace.
How would you describe your fashion style?
My fashion style is “everyday is fashion week.” Growing up I loved putting my clothes together out of nothing. Down to the jewelry and socks. I dress up everyday like I’m on the runway and vision myself feeling and looking like I’m a million bucks.
Who or what inspires you?
Personally, I don’t have specific people who are my inspiration. What I do is ask myself, “do they have the attitude and dedication that I seek to have?” Then I try to study them and figure out what they did to get there. So if I had to say what inspires me it would be strong, courageous, hard working, kind hearted but boss like woman! Nothing sparks the fire in me more to see that.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
My advice to someone just getting started with modeling is to please not give up and believe in yourself! You will have many no’s before you get your yes, but what makes you a successful model is how you deal with rejection and people telling you that you can not make a career out of modeling and will never fulfill your dreams. Keep going. Keep investing in yourself. Networking is the key! Consistency is the key! Faith in yourself is the key! You can do it.
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
In my life, I’ve had so many obstacles that made me want to give up. Such as, heartbreaks, losing a job, losing my car, not knowing which way to go, but with God’s help I pick myself back up every time, look in the mirror and tell myself I must keep going because if I don’t, I’ll lose. The weight of the world was so heavy on me at one point and still is, but you have to transform that pain into power and passion!
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
My beautiful comes from my heart. I have a heart of gold. Even after betrayal from many, I still love whole heartedly and humble myself. I see everyone as equal no matter the circumstances. My belief is that beauty comes from within. That’s how I shine.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
To anyone out their struggling with their confidence, please know that you are your own person and there’s no one like you. We all were born here with special gifts and talents. You just have to find yours, and don’t be in a rush to do so! You’re on your own journey and when the time is right you’ll see it come to fruition. Get up everyday and tell yourself “I am beautiful, I am strong, I am confident.” Instill it in your mind and thought process, and don’t ever forget it! Remember, no one defines you but you, and your soul should always be the prettiest part of you.
