Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add)
My name is Shayla Achen and I am from Las Cruces, NM. My father is a pecan farmer there so I was born and raised in a small-town farming community! I will be 25 on October 24th and currently live in Dallas, TX. I work in sales for a staffing firm but I also just opened my own microblading business.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
I have modeled for local boutiques and shops growing up, and have been approached by local photographers to be a test subject to expand their portfolio.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to have a thriving microblading business that allows me to create my own schedule and give me flexibility to pursue a modeling career.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
My favorite quote is “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, and that means not everyone will think the same things are beautiful. Some of my biggest flaws others may consider to be my most beautiful assets. Being your own kind of beautiful is all about perception and how we see beauty in ourselves. Not everyone will think I’m the most beautiful woman, but that’s okay because I am beautifully me.
How would you describe your fashion style?
Street chic/minimalist chic
Who or what inspires you?
I am primarily inspired by some of Instagram’s biggest fashion bloggers because they are entirely relatable. I also am inspired by celebrities such as the Kardashians, Hailey Bieber, and any other celebrity who dresses chic and classy with a side of sultry.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
Do not conform to the demands of others and do not let the opinions of others get you down. There may always be someone more striking than you, but no one will ever be you and that is your power.
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
I started my business career as a manager at a Fortune 500 company, and I was looked down upon because of my looks. They assumed I would be naïve and slow witted based on my appearance, when in fact I was a top performer at the company. I learned that my looks can be advantageous, but they can also cost me in certain situations and I have to work twice as hard to prove I deserve to be there.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
I am beautiful because I am confident. Confident in who I am and what I bring to the table, and no one can take that from me.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
Your confidence is something incredibly fragile. Any person can take it from you at any time if you are not guarded, and that is dangerous thing to know. Stay on guard and remind yourself we all have flaws, no matter how perfect someone may seem, and it’s okay to be insecure about them. Once we own our flaws and know it is human to have them, you win the power to take your confidence back.
