Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add)

My name is Shyla, but my friends call me Shy. I’m 23 years young. I’m originally from western Oklahoma but I moved to Texas about three years ago and have loved it since.

Tell us about your modeling experience.

I do not have as much modeling experience as I would hope at this point. I joined John Casablancas modeling school at around age 14. I enjoy photo shoots with local photographers whenever I get the time around work. I fell in love with being in front of the camera.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to be able to model in NYFW and be on the cover of a magazine. Aside from my modeling career, my dream is becoming a physician assistant. I currently work in the healthcare field and it is a passion of mine.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

Being your own kind of beautiful means being a beautiful person inside. Looks mean nothing if you’re ugly in the inside. It means not comparing yourself to others.

How would you describe your fashion style?

My fashion style definitely varies. I will dress very chic, normally in black or gray with a bright color pair of heels. Other days I will be in Air Jordan’s with joggers and a tank top.

Who or what inspires you?

My nana has been my biggest inspiration. She has always pushed me to be the best version of myself I can be. I get my looks from her and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

My advice to someone getting started in modeling is to not be intimidated. You only have one life and to just go for it and follow your dreams.

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

Obstacles in my life I have learned to overcome is having to grow up at a younger age. I have learned to be independent and work hard for everything I want and need.

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

I believe what makes me beautiful is how I treat others and the attitude I upkeep. I try to never judge a person. I will always be nice and caring to any person I meet. I am always smiling and laughing.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

For someone my age struggling with their confidence, it is hard. I still struggle with my confidence on the daily. Learn to love yourself. Have that confidence and go accomplish your goals in life.
