Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add)

My name is Joy Onyechi. 19 years ago I was born in Italy however I am a Nigerian descent. I am the oldest out of 4 girls. My favorite hobby to do besides modeling is dancing. I love playing with makeup and perfecting my makeup skills. Currently in school studying to become an Esthetician Nurse.

Tell us about your modeling experiences.

Ever since I was young, my passion for modeling struck. I was a self taught model who watched plenty of YouTube videos on how to walk the runway, how to pose for photo shoots, what colors make you pop out for photo shoots, etc. In 2016, I participated in my first pageant for National American Miss. I did not get the luxury of winning however, but it did me give insight of what my modeling world was to look like if I truly wanted to pursue it. Times after that, I would continuously participate in photo shoots to build up my portfolio hoping that one day an agency will find me. In 2019, I walked for my first fashion show hosted by DAAPRÈ Fashion Empire. In 2021, here I am signed with my first agency and I can’t wait to see what else God has stored for me.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to become one of the top known models who’s recognized for being any and everything but being good at it, wether it’s commercial, editorial, beauty, runway, etc.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

Being your own kind of beautiful means loving every bit of yourself wether it’s your scars, stretch marks, a mole, etc. because that is what makes you unique.

How would you describe your fashion Style?

I would say my fashion style is diverse.

Who or what inspires you?

Truly, God inspires me. Whenever I’m in doubt, and on the edge of giving up God always shows me signs on why I shouldn’t. He drops opportunities in my lap unexpectedly and for that & more I’m forever grateful.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

Never give up. There’s an opportunity out there for everybody you just need to humble yourself and be patient because when you think you are at your lowest, someone sees you to be at your highest. Continuing hustling and bettering yourself.

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

Although it was my first pageant to participate in, I worked very hard to do the best I could. I was discouraged when I didn’t win the pageant or at least be one of the runner-ups. At the end of the show, one of the judges came up to me and told me how she was suprised I didn’t win because her and some other judges had voted for me and she told me no matter what I seen or heard I was one of the best contestants and to never give up. At that point in time, I didn’t care if i lost, those words boosted up my spirit and reminded me to always be at your best because even if you don’t think so someone is always watching.

What would you say to another guy/ girl your age who is struggling with their confidence?

You are in control of what you love and in order to do that make yourself the #1 priority. Turn your insecurities into character traits that you love about yourself because that is what makes you different than others. It is true, you can be different and be beautiful you just have to believe it yourself first.
