Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add)
I am a college graduate with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. I was born and raised in Largo, Maryland, which is where I currently reside. I am 22 years old and was born on Halloween. Besides modeling, I have a passion for pageantry and writing, specifically poetry.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
I started modeling at the age of ten. I was a shy kid, very introverted with no social skills at all, suffering from bullying and lack of speech. My mother thought it was a good idea to gift me modeling and acting training. I attended John Robert Powers, and now twelve years later comes a very driven and passionate young woman with a dream to inspire others. Since that age, I have walked in New York Fashion Week three times, Atlantic City Fashion Week twice, the Vegan Festival Fashion Show, and even had the opportunity to walk in London Fashion Week. I have been on the covers of two magazines and have been featured in three fashion magazines. I have won three national modeling titles and served as a print model for a reputable fashion label.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to live my life, doing what I love. I also want to be a representative for other children like me, who has heard so many times that “they would never make it” or have heard the word “no” more than they heard “yes”. I am a survivor of society and I need to tell my story.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
It means to never change because of what others have to say about you. You are made to be different, and to stand out from others. Being your own kind of beautiful, is not being afraid to be judged.
How would you describe your fashion style?
My fashion style is timeless. I love basics! I love neutral colors. They will never go out of style and you can dress it up or dress it down.
Who or what inspires you?
My family, but more specifically, my parents. They have sacrificed so much for me to be able to live my dream. It is not easy being a model in this world of misrepresentation. But they believe in me, and they have invested time, money, and energy into my career. My goal is to pay them back for everything they have done.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
Do not stop! If this is something that you want to do, there will be an abundance of setbacks. Your job is to remember, a setback is just a set up for your comeback. Stay true to yourself and never give up. Also, do not forget where you came from.
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
I am an African American woman, just being a minority is a risk in the industry. I am not the tallest, there has been occasions that I was overlooked because of my height. But being discouraged is not an option. I have realized that when one door closes, another one is already open. If I have heart, passion, and talent, my expectations are limitless.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
My personality, I have been told that my smile is contagious. I love seeing people happy around me, especially if I had something to do about it. Beauty is okay, on the outside. But the inside is what really matters, your soul.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
Only you can give yourself confidence, the key is manifestation. Do not look to others to validate you, you validate yourself. Tell yourself that you are beautiful, you are bold, and you are talented. You can do anything you want.
