Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add)
Hey! I'm Jess Bennett, a 17 y/o old from the great ol' state of New Jersey. The state where people can't decide if it's Taylor Ham or Porkroll. Being determined, driven, and enthusiastic are the perfect words to describe me. A tiny sprinkle of diva, a little splash of confidence, topped off with a drizzle of ambition, and that's me! Ever since I was three years old, I had a passion for modeling, singing, and acting. I'm a hard-worker who once she knows what she wants, she'll do whatever is necessary to receive it. My hero, my mom, always told me to shoot for the moon, because even if I miss, I'll land amongst the stars.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
I've modeled for multiple companies (print and runway) including Macy's, ChickNYC, SHEIN, SugarLulu, CarrieBerk, Women's EXPO, Junees, Junell5, LameraSportsWear, AmbrosiaJeen, Grace Collections, Gabriella Stockings, etc. I'm hoping to continue modeling for more amazing companies whether it's through print modeling, runway shows, or even being an influencer.
What is your biggest dream?
A big dream consists of fear, consistency, passion, and bravery. It may seem impossible but so did so many other things I've accomplished within my life. My aspirations include continue modeling for small and big companies, hoping to one day walk in LAFW, Paris Fashion Week, and so many other huge opportunities on red carpets. I also would love to continue my acting career and break into the entertainment industry with a huge movie or series worldwide. Singing is also a talent of mine, which I hope to pursue even more in the future.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
Beauty comes from within, it seeps through from the inside to the outside. Your heart truly shows your beauty, showcasing your own kind of beautiful. No matter what anyone says, no matter how many times you get told no, you come back better than ever as the best version of yourself. Stand out. Be the girl that sparkles, be the boy that shines, be the individual your younger self wished to be. You should live your life happy and without any worries of the negative surroundings around you. The day you believe you're beautiful, everyone else around you will see it too.
How would you describe your fashion style?
My fashion style consists of different things for different events. I vary between high-fashion runway model, to cute and elegant beauty girl, to an aesthetic 2020 trendy fireball, to comfortable cute wearing sweatpants and sneakers. I rock it all!
Who or what inspires you?
My inspiration is my grandfather. As he may be watching me from heaven, I know I'm making him proud. He provided me with the wisest advice, sweetest conversations, and the most memorable moments. He only wanted the absolute best for me, he wished for me to achieve my dreams no matter who tried to get in my way. Thinking of him reminds me of where I left off with my career while he was alive, and now I want to prove to him I'm capable of so much more.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
BE. YOURSELF. No matter your facial appearance, nobody wants to see a stuck-up individual who believes she's/he's everything. There is ALWAYS room for improvement. If you have an amazing personality, you'll be a pleasure to work with, become friends with, AND be a joy through photoshoots and runway fittings. Avoid being a boring person, aim to be the happy and confident STAND OUT!
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
People can be mean. I've been bullied from first grade all the way through high school, even cyberbullying as well. I was made fun of for my appearance, my goals, my accomplishments, my body, my personality -- everything known to man. I was torn down, I had no self-confidence, and I wanted to give up completely. I was home-schooled, failing classes, and was in a depressive state for a long time. Once I started getting more involved within my modeling, the second I hit that stage.. wow. I became a whole new girl with a whole new perspective on life. I started learning more about myself, achieving confidence, and accomplishing self-goals I never thought of before. I started doing self-care and showcasing my personality no matter what I do and not with a care in the world about who's watching. I started doing more photoshoots, runway shows, and slowly learned some things I love about myself. I love the spotlight of the camera, the public-speaking in interviews, and the fierceness I bring to the table. Sometimes words still hurt, but I know the worth of myself now. Don't let ANYONE stomp all over you like I used to. Back then, I was a girl with no dreams. Today, I am Jess Bennett.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
100% my personality. I love to be ambitious and have fun. You want me to climb a tree for a picture? Let's do it. You want me to dance the cotton-eye-joe in front of a crowd of 200 people? Let's do it. I'm very outgoing and LOVE to think outside the box. My kindness within my heart adds onto my beauty as I'd drop anything to help out someone else in need. I love to volunteer at local senior homes, shelters, toys for tots, operation christmas child, and so many other opportunities. My goal is to keep everyone happy as well as maintaining my own happiness. If my wise words help at least one person, my day is made.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
It. Is. Hard; however, I promise you that it isn't impossible. We weren't put on this Earth for everything to be handed to us, life is NOT easy. We are going to struggle, overcome, and accomplish. Keep striving, keep going for what YOU want, because at the end of the day, the only person's life you need to satisfy is your own. We only have one time on this Earth, make it a good one.
