Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add)

My name is Essence Imani and I am a 21-year old girl from Philadelphia PA. Modeling is my passion because I admire fashion and have a deep love and respect for the art of it. Although my first dream has always been modeling, I am currently in college studying Communications and will my own marketing business targeting fashion brands.

Tell us about your modeling experience.

I began modeling at 15 years old. I started off collaborating with creatives in my city on fashion projects. I enjoyed doing this because it allowed me to network with some amazing people who loved art and fashion as much as myself.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to start a non-profit organization targeting inner-city youth like myself. I want to be a voice in my community and continue the cycle of giving back. I believe one of my purposes in life is to help create a fair and equitable society for all.

How would you describe your fashion style?

Simple but “statementy” lol. I believe simplicity is key in fashion. I love neutrals and timeless fashion brands like Chanel. My favorite outfit is a pair of cute jean shorts paired with a white tank and a tall sandal heel. The heels can be a statement piece in terms of style or color.

Who or what inspires you?

What inspires me is the positive things (big or small) that are constantly happening in life. Also, knowing that every moment I have an opportunity to be a better individual. Despite all of the negative things that are going on in the world there's always something to be grateful for, starting with having another day to live. Sometimes there isn't a way to stop negative things from happening but when you focus on your blessings you find joy.

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

My ability to not judge others and empathize with them. In this era of cancel culture and social media, we forget that it's about correcting ignorance rather than isolating others. As a society, we must practice giving others the same grace we wish to receive.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

Write down all the traits you love about yourself as well as things you want to change (that you can change of course) on paper. Turn your list into positive affirmations and say them daily. The universe and your words are the most powerful tools you have. Whatever you speak into existence, you will receive, even confidence.
