1. Tell us about yourself.

My name is Kyani and I am 13 years of age. I live on the island of Maui, in the state of Hawaii. I am the youngest of three girls. For fun, I have danced hula for about eight years, I joined the cheer squad at my school and even paddled for one year.

2. What is your biggest dream?

I have many dreams that I want to achieve in my life. One of the biggest dreams that I have for myself is to make a positive difference in this world. I care a lot about people and I feel if I am able to impact even one person in a positive way that is one step closer to making this world better.

3. What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

I think that being your own kind of beautiful means being exactly who you were made to be and feeling 100% comfortable and happy in who you truly are inside and out. Beauty is not just on the surface, it comes from within.. And whatever you have in your heart is what reflects outward.

I truly believe that the way you make a person feel by your words and actions, ultimately reflects how beautiful of a human being you truly are.

4. Tell us about your modeling experience.

When I was 5 years old I modeled for Chameleon Talent agency in a film called the “Flower Power”. Within the last year I modeled for my sisters jewelry line and also had the opportunity to walk the runway for my dance group.

5. What is your dream brand to model for?

I have always wanted to become a Victoria Secret Model and walk their runway during their holiday fashion show.

6. How would you describe your fashion style?

I attend a private school so most of my wardrobe is a uniform. When I am not in school I like to wear light colors, flowy dresses and spring wear. In Hawaiʻi, we get the same weather all year long so we wear the same type of clothes all year long. Aside from spring wear 24/7, I like to wear my bikinis to the beach.

7. How important is self-awareness and confidence to you in your everyday life?

It is important to have self- awareness and confidence in my life because the ability to monitor my emotions and thoughts from moment to moment is key to understanding myself better, being at peace with who I am  and proactively managing my thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. It is important to have self-awareness in my life because it helps me keep a positive outlook on life. And being confident is important  because If I feel good about myself , and feel that I have all the potential to make my dreams come true, my subconscious starts to think that way and everyday it pushes me towards being a better person. But if I am under-confident, which sometimes I am, and think that iʻm not good enough, iʻm myself holding me back from realizing my true potential. The world always aims at pulling people down, so to sustain, I need to be confident about myself.

8. What makes you beautiful?

I don't know what it is about this question but it's really hard for me to answer...this question made me think a lot…. Maybe itʻs because I think so down of myself and I bet im not the only one... but why do people do that, I feel like itʻs because of the way society and the world is, maybe itʻs because so many people have this ideal image of what's beautiful, and if you don't have one part of whats on that image you are immediately non beautiful. Like we are supposed to be the same person, act the same way, have the same body type, same looks, but if we had that what would make us different from each other??...... Our heart, thats whats makes us different and I feel like that's our true beauty and how pure our hearts are. So why can't society see that. Beauty comes from within not just the outer surface. People call someone beautiful from their looks but I feel it's so much more deeper than that. It's not just what you see in the mirror, we have to look past the mirror and look deeper and we will see the true beauty and the real you. I honestly can't say there was one time I looked in the mirror and was satisfied with what I saw but I know that if my inside, and my attitude, and the way I treat others is beautiful I know I am on the outer surface. Itʻs hard to live in this generation because of all the judgement and the hatred, but we all have to get past that and start lifting each other up instead of bringing each other down. I know how to deal with hard situations because I know God is right beside me and with him I can do many things. And what makes me beautiful is the way God made me because,  he made each and every one of us and that's how I know im beautiful and everyone else is.

9. What would you say to another girl your age who is struggling with their confidence?

Something that I would say to another girl, is that no matter what society, or people say about you it doesn't really matter, because the only opinion that truly matters is what you think about yourself, and no matter what you look like you are beautiful. Maybe a lot of people tell you that but it doesn't mean anything unless you believe it yourself, When you don't know your true beauty and know your worth, its hard to see the beauty in the world, because if you can't believe your beautiful, how can you believe anything else is. Also whatever is making you feel less confident, maybe the way you look, your clothes, what people say, those aren't as important as in what's in your heart. So just be the best you, you could ever be, because when you realize you are beautiful and become confident, you will finally see the light when it's dark and you will feel a feeling like you have never felt before.
